recoding 2 levels within 1 block

hi,
i have a one -factor- block of 30 questions; part of the questions refers to one level of the factor and part to another level.
i'm trying to recode the questions so the data will be operated on each level seperately.
i grouped each level in a group but i cannot find the function to seperate them to different average, analysis, etc.
