Adding A New Variable To Assessments

Dear Qualtrics Community,

In our research, we are performing 22 separate assessments and so far we had 72 responses for each of them. We would like to add ID numbers to each assessment but, when we tried to edit, the Qualtrics gives a warning which states "Editing could invalidate the results!". I wonder, how will adding a new question affect our previously collected data? If it will not affect, could we also reassign already recorded data for the new feature "ID"?

Thanks in advance,
Kind regards,

It's a warning to make sure we are not doing anything which will impact the data which is collected so far.

Adding a new question (preferably at the end) will not affect the data... however, if you delete anything then it will surely impact the data.

Try to perform a quick check on a test project by running few "test survey" and then adding a new question and then again generating test survey...
Here is the documentation on "how you can generate test survey":

Also, yes, you can edit the data for any question, however, you should perform edit through "Data & Analysis" below is the documentation. This will make sure the record is intact.
Else updating the response through API will generate a new response.
