As the education landscape evolves, universities are facing new challenges that directly impact student and staff experiences. According to the Qualtrics’ 2025 Education Trends recent article, here are two of the most important themes shaping higher education this year and how your institution can respond.

Trust Is Starting To Decline
Trust is slightly falling among both students and staff. The article explains that “fundamental breakdowns in communication are putting institutional reputation at risk.” When people don’t feel heard, supported, or included, engagement and loyalty drop.
To rebuild trust, universities can focus on better listening, clearer communication, and closing the loop on feedback. A strong feedback culture can make all the difference in strengthening relationships across campus.

The Employee Experience Directly Impacts Students
It is outlined that “the employee experience directly impacts student interactions.” When faculty and staff are empowered, supported, and engaged, students feel that support too—whether in the classroom, on campus, or online.
Improving the employee experience helps boost morale, reduce burnout, and create a more positive learning environment for students. Recognition, training, and positive communication all play a big role.

We’d love to hear your thoughts:

  1. Where are you seeing trust issues, if any, show up most? Students, staff, or both?
  2. What’s one thing you’ve done recently to improve your staff or faculty experience?

Feel free to share your answers in the comments. Your ideas and experiences could help others in the group!

  1. I don’t see that a lot of trust issues trickle down to the students (this is based on my own experiences).  I hold a dual role as a staff member and student.
  2. Not just on campus but in day to day life I try to act on the positive things.  If someone does a good job I make sure they know they are appreciated.
