This is one of the most fun projects I have worked on while at UW-Madison. It is a self-assessment tool created for students entering the MS in Design and Innovation. It helps sort students into balanced work groups. We carefully designed a questionnaire to have a series of trade-off questions that identify students' dominant energy from 4 primary energies. We also created a shorter series of questions to help people identify which one of four roles they tend to play in a group. The questions are meant to be fun but they are intentional with each response mapping to an energy (the ones displayed in pairs) or role (ones with four options). Scoring is used in the background to tally points and branching logic then figures out your primary energy in order to customize an email delivered to the student via action item (if you try this for yourself you will want to put your email address in the action event as it is coded to send to me and the email from a contact list).
This is one example of non-traditional ways UW-Madison uses Qualtrics to bring some fun into the classroom, but with purpose.

That's really fun! I downloaded it into my Projects and gave it a run through. Good question set!
I didn't get an action event on the Preview so I wonder if that got stripped from the file on the export of the .qsf or if because it was Preview.

MichelleC thanks! It was one of the most fun things I have worked on. It looks like the action got stripped out of the .qsf file. If anyone is interested in actually seeing your results you can use this preview link (you will provide your email address at the end of the survey):

Love it! It sounds like maybe some of the logic/flow/scoring gets stripped out ini the qsf, is that right? I know a number of instructors who would be interested in this -- with attribution, of course.

dperpich it does seem that way, but just because the scoring is in a couple of different categories so it seems like some questions are missing scoring in the .qsf but you just have to change it drop down to see all the categories. The summary email has trouble carrying through in actions but here it is if you want to copy and paste.

Helloย ${m://FirstName},ย

Congratulations for completing the MS Design and Innovation Pre-Assessment for your team role and collaboration style within a team.ย
Reminder: This is not a personality assessment. It is a snapshot of how you view yourself working in a team. It is not how you believe others see you but how you see yourself. This self-assessment tool is meant to help you understand what roles in a team you most identify with. It is not meant to define your skill-set but rather to frame a conversation around your perceptions of how you collaborate within a team. There is no right or wrong answer for this assessment and choices are meant to be difficult and based on your intuition when faced with a situation based on how you would most likely react.
Based on your assessment:

Your role is:ย ${e://Field/Role}ย ย ย ย ย Your Collaboration Style:ย ${e://Field/Score1};ย ${e://Field/Score2}

The goal of this assessment is to understand how your collaboration style(s) affects team dynamics and how your thought process may differ from others when working in an interdisciplinary design team. This assessment will also help you reflect on your role, what you bring to a team as your core strengths, and what others bring that is different from your learning and working style.ย

You can use the chart below to see how your scores are ranked. Here is how to interpret it; For every type of collaboration style (Identifier, Inspirer, Investigator, Implementer) the highest possible score is a 9. The closer you are to a 9, the more you identify with that style. These 4 styles are on a continuum from identifier to implementer, meaning that the styles closer together on the continuum are more alike than those on opposite ends.ย

Type of Collaboration StyleScore RangeYour ScoreIdentifier0-9${e://Field/ExploringScore}Inspirer0-9${e://Field/ExcitingScore}Investigator0-9${e://Field/ExaminingScore}Implementer0-9${e://Field/ExecutingScore}
Collaboration Styles:

Jack of all trades:ย If you received this collaboration style, then you mesh with well with all of the other styles and embody components of each one. You have the ability to work with any style when in a team and can adapt to a variety of situations. However, what increases and decreases your energy depends on your overall team dynamic and what specific type of action you have to take. There also may be instances, where you clash with those that strongly identify with one of the styles.ย

Identifier:ย If your collaboration style is classified as identifier, you are someone that wants to know the "How?" behind the way things work. You have a high interest in creative thinking and think of options independently, seeing the connections between them. Your energy increases as you take action to examine the possibilities and potential of a project and broaden the scope of the project. Your energy level in a group tends to decrease when you have to work with limitations on tight timelines that require you to prioritize.ย

Inspirer:ย โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹If your collaboration style is classified as inspirer, you have a high interest in people and places. You are a "people-person"ย that takes action in a group by inspiring and energizing your teammates. Your energy increases when you acknowledge the strengths of others and bring fun into the working environment. You tend to advocate for fairness in work-process and consider the needs of all your teammates. Your energy decreases when your work does not let you be spontaneous and you must stay disciplined and focused on one task at a time.ย

Investigator:ย If your collaboration style is classified as investigator, you take action by analyzing why things work. You are someone that makes decisions based on facts backed by data. You tend to be skeptical of initial decisions and prefer to analyze the situation from a methodological perspective. Your energy increases when you have time to study the data and make decisions based on facts. Conversely, your energy decreases when you have to rush or be flexible/spontaneous when creating solutions to a problem.ย

Implementer:ย If your collaboration style is classified as implementer, you are someone who is authoritative in nature and tends to think about situations pragmatically. You take action by getting things done to reach an end goal. Your energy is increased in situations where you have direct power and get to lead and shape the group. Your energy decreases when you have to share control, slow down, and put project results second and personal needs first.ย

For more detailed information about the different energy types, please clickย here.ย

Roles:
The designation of a specific role is meant to highlight prior experience that you bring into a team. These designations are more fluid than collaboration styles and you will get exposure to each one as you progress through the program.ย

Strategist:ย As a strategist you are concerned with determining what people need to solve problems and analyzing the groups that have those problems. You like to plan out how the product will reach those who need it.ย

Engineer:ย If you are classified as an engineer, you are interested in building the product to solve the problem. You care how products work and what it takes to make them function.ย

UX Designer:ย Those that identify as a UX Designer are interested in the user's experience with a product. You are concerned with how people want to use the product and with how the consumer wants to use it.ย

Artist:ย As an artist, you are someone interested in making products look visually appealing. You are interested in the aesthetic design process of the product.ย

I went thought the version you provided that prompted for my email and received that message, thanks!
Still looking to share this with my colleagues. I imported your .qsf and the Survey Flow logic looks good, and I presume the scoring is on the up+up too.
The embedded data fields for FirstName, LastName and email will obviously have to be tweaked. Looks like you were pulling those via a Contact list.
Something still looks amiss with the Email trigger(s) though. The .qsf only has one email trigger, and it seems to rely on two very specific answers. Is that the way it should be. I wasn't surprised to see just one trigger. I was surprised to see the criteria for sending -- especially the "And" operator, since Q1 is a multiple choice, single selection question.
Any guidance is much appreciated.

dperpich I am also surprised to see the conditions in the trigger. I don't recall building it that way, but I did pass off the original to others for use and upkeep - the instructor may have found a reason to do this but I surely can't understand why. You should be able to remove those conditions and have it all still work just fine for you.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll run it without the trigger and try to remember to report back.
