Public-facing dashboards empower state and local government agencies to be transparent and build trust with their communities. This information can be displayed on your official website, shared through constituent portals, or utilized internally for operational awareness.

Below are a few frequently asked questions that may be helpful for you to read through to learn more about implementing public-facing dashboards for your agency.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • What pieces of data should be viewed on an internal dashboard vs. a public-facing dashboard?
    • A dashboard made public can be accessed by anyone using a single link, meaning the public would not need an account or log-in credentials to view it. Keeping this in mind, ensure your public data does not contain sensitive information such as PII (personally identifiable information on residents, employees, customers, or anyone else).
      • Tip: You can create separate dashboards for private, internal-only data and public data. Please note: You cannot make some sections of a single dashboard public and others private.
  • How can we view certain data sets (e.g., filtered by date, department, or region)?
    • We suggest creating a new dashboard project, as detailed in our documentation.
View this support page to learn more about filtering results.
  • What is the process of making a dashboard public?
  • Do I need to pay for this feature?
    • It depends on your current license. Some CX licenses have the built-in ability to display public-facing dashboards. If your agency would like to discuss adding this feature to your license, please contact your Account Executive or XM Success team here.
  • What does "public" truly mean, can anyone find it?
    • Yes, once made public, the dashboard is searchable and accessible by anyone who has the link or finds it on your website.

Our organization does not currently use public-facing dashboards but I could see some product teams being interested in doing so at a point in the future. I also see that public-facing dashboards are only available for state/local governments and academic institutions, not federal.

Other platforms, like Tableau, PowerBI, or Looker Studio are useful for visualizing Qualtrics data, including embedding visualizations into websites. That said, it’s essential to consult closely with your IT teams, including developers and information security staff, to make sure that your visualization approach aligns with your organization’s policies. Your IT colleagues are an indispensable resource.
