My wife's family is of Polish descent. On Christmas Eve they have a family dinner in which only fish is served. It's great for me - I love fish. My wife and 4 daughters do not. In order to keep them from being too hungry, we usually stop at a burger place and they load up on burgers and fries. It's not a fancy place, just a neighborhood "joint", but they look forward to it because it is now tradition.
For New Year's Eve, we started a tradition when they were very young of watching old movies or musicals. It started because the family party became a booze fest and it was not fun for them to watch uncles and aunts get blind drunk and act inappropriate (there was also a fair amount of 🤮) It has continued for 20+ years and there are many discussions (ok, fights) about what movies to watch.

Driving to a local park at night to see the large holiday lights displays on Christmas Eve.
It is a tradition welcomed in from my Sister-In-Laws family, but we gather every year on Christmas Eve for a crab leg feast. Kids open one present which is always new pj's before reading Night before Christmas to end evening.
We like to seek out beautiful light displays to enjoy as a family. There are some houses in the area that are decorated amazingly well that we visit, but there are also professional light displays that we have paid for tickets to drive through and enjoy. This year took the cake when we visited Christmas Town, the Christmas celebration at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA. The light displays were breath taking and we loved taking the Holiday Express train ride through the park to view all of the amazing lights.
It's not Christmas until we watch the movie "Die Hard", at least twice! While some may call it an action/adventure movie, it really is a more of a contemporary Christmas movie, just with more guns and explosions ;)
Merry Christmas, Survey People!

A summer Sydney Christmas is perfectly completed by getting up late on Boxing Day to watch the start of the test at the MCG, and then watching the start of the Sydney to Hobart during the lunch break....or better yet, being on the start line starting in the race!
Every year, my wife and I listen to Robert Shaw Chorale and Orchestra' recording of Handel's Messiah on vinyl while wrapping Christmas presents. It is a wonderful point of relaxation in what can be a busy few weeks.
