Topic: Types of Validation

Although it can be enticing to have all of your questions use force response, requiring a response for too many questions can result in higher respondent fatigue and an increased dropout rate.

When using validation on a survey, it is beneficial to know the types of validations at your disposal to choose the best option for your specific case.  A great alternative to force response is request-response, since it prompts the user to answer the question before proceeding, but doesn’t require a response so the user can choose to ignore the prompt and continue with the survey.

Certain question types include multiple validation options ranging from email address validation to verifying that an answer is within a specific range of numbers. Custom validation allows you to create your own validation logic and include a personalized validation error message to let the respondent know what is required for them to proceed.
