Building a table into a question that allows participants to choose from | XM Community
Skip to main content

Hi, I am quite new to Qualtrics, but I am writing my thesis right now and I need your help. I am designing a survey right now. Basically, I want to design a question that contains a table. I want to ask my respondents to choose 5 stocks from that table (20 stocks) that have different characteristics. For instance, one stock has a more favourable scenario etc. I created an excel table that lists the stocks (1-20) with 8 characteristics each. How do I get that table in a question without using a picture of it? And if that is possible, how can I let participants choose from this table? Is there a way to do this with the tools provided? Do I need to code?
Thank you guys in advance!
Jakob

Hi JakobKarc, not sure if this gets you what you're after, but I'll have a go at offering a potential solution for you.😀

  1. Start with a "Matrix table" question type, setting your Matrix Type as "Likert" and the Answer Type set to "Allow one answer".

  2. Add 20 Scale Points (one for each stock) and 5 Statements (one for each selection).

  3. For each Scale Point, use the Rich Content Editor (i.e. when editing the Scale Point label, click the dropdown arrow and select "Rich Content Editor") such that it details the stock and that stock's relevant characteristics.

  4. For each Statement, set the values to whetever makes sense (e.g. Option 1, Option 2 etc).

  5. Transpose the table

  6. Select the Recode Values option (see the bottom of the Edit Question section) and recode the Variable Naming (i.e. set them to Stock 1, Stock 2, Stock 3 etc)

The finished product should look something like this -:
