I am creating a ranking question in which the definitions of answer choice terms should appear when a respondent clicks on the term. One suggested idea was to have a descriptive text question beneath my ranking question with a placeholder of . Can anyone help me with the jquery needed such that when someone clicks on a term in my ranking question it edits the question text of the descriptive text question to be the definition of the clicked term?

You should consider using tooltips, which is the standard way of adding this type of functionality. There are a number of Community posts on the subject.

Thanks TomG ! I have found tooltip posts that taught me how to create hover and even clickable text, but none on how to show definitions in a separate question's descriptive text. Any suggestions on a community post that touches on that more specifically? Thanks again for your help!
