When a user is answering a side-by-side question and selected an answer but then decides they don't want to answer this question at all, is there a way to, for example, add a button or something that allows the user to clear all their selections for that question?

I highly doubt that will be possible. Due to how the question is structured internally, the registry is not exposed and clearing doesn't seem feasible.
