I do a lot of multi-country studies and when asking about income, I set up individual questions for each country and use display logic such as Country=USA etc. to show the correct currency, e.g. USD
In Switzerland, there are 3 spoken languages (IT, DE, FR) and I want to give respondents the opportunity to answer in their preferred language and see their currency (CHF). The study is also being conducted in Germany and France where people can answer in their chosen language and see their currency (EUR).
My challenge is to allow people to choose their language and see their own currency questions in their own language. If I set up 3 currency questions for Switzerland in IT/FR and DE, if I make all languages 'visible' how do I know which language someone has chosen to do the survey in so that I can show the correct language for the currency question?
Alternatively, is it possible to ask Swiss people which language they would prefer and use this choice to a) deliver the survey in the chosen language and b) display the currency question in the correct language?
Sorry its such a long question.....
https://community.qualtrics.com/XMcommunity/discussion/22530/switzerland-setting-up-a-multi-country-study-showing-the-correct-currency-in-different-languagesYou should only set up one currency question for Switzerland and translate it. Swiss people will see it in whatever language they are taking the survey in. All your currency questions should have display logic based on Country.
The embedded variable Q_Language always has the current language.
Hi Tom
Thanks for the prompt reply
So what if I add 3 versions of a currency question for SW in IT, DE and FR?
If a Swiss respondent chooses German, then Q_Language=DE?
Consequently, a Swiss person will see the Swiss/DE version of the question by using the display logic Country = Switzerland and Q_Language=DE.
Have I understood this correctly?
So what if I add 3 versions of a currency question for SW in IT, DE and FR?
I think you only need 1 currency question for Switzerland that will be translated into IT, DE, and FR.
If a Swiss respondent chooses German, then Q_Language=DE?
Correct.
Consequently, a Swiss person will see the Swiss/DE version of the question by using the display logic Country = Switzerland and Q_Language=DE.
As stated above, I think you only need one currency question for SW with display logic Country=Switzerland. Respondents will see the translation for their current language.
Hi Tom
Well my option didn't work.....
The survey has 6 countries, 4 currencies and 4 languages
If you are in Germany, you will see the German translation and EUR currency
If you are in France, you will see the French translation and EUR currency
If you are in Italy, you will see the Italian translation and EUR currency
If you are in Switzerland, how do I give you the option to see CHF in German, Italian or French?
Thanks for your patience
Arthur
Hi Tom
I finally got it!
I set up a separate question for each country, with 3 for SW, one for each language.
In the translation file (e.g. DE) I changed the SW/DE version of the question from the default of DE/EUR to CHF with German wording.
Thanks for your time and help
