How do I remove/ change an "ID" field designated at setup of an Import Data project? | XM Community

I recently created a few Import Data projects to be able to upload data for using in Dashboards.  At that time, the tool recommended indicating an “ID” so I designated “Contact_ID” as the field.  I am now realizing that this is putting limitations on the data being brought into the Project from the file being uploaded so I want to remove that ID designation but it’s greyed-out in Field Chooser and can’t find anywhere else to be able to remove/ change the ID.

Qualtrics support desk doesn’t know.

Any guidance from the pro users out there?

Can you check if the column you selected has blank cells? The ID column is used as an Unique Identifier and that might have caused this missing rows issue.

 

I had faced similar issue before and was not able to find any direct solution for this...had to reimport the file.


You will need to reimport to change any IDs to be used as the key for the data.


Agree that the best way is to re-import the file.  The only other way we have updated variables in past which are not editable within the platform is utilise one of the API’s available to update/rewrite the data.  Not an easy/quick solution though. 


Thanks all.  Just to clarify and to add more background information regarding your answers:

  • I have been re-importing each week - this is to bring in any new responses/ status changes
  • There have not been blank/ missing “respondents” but where a respondent has been qualified to complete the survey multiple times or there may be multiple lines for a respondent (eg Reminder, Status = skipped, failed, soft/hard bounce, etc) those rows don’t appear to be allowed in the Data & Analysis database
  • It appears that the Contact_ID unique identifier limits the database to only one entry per contact which is fine in most cases but for what I’m trying to do is bring in all data and then filter/ report in dashboard widgets as necessary
  • This is why I’m trying to Remove the Contact_ID as the unique identifier...but can’t see where or how that can be done
