How can I set the question value of question type "text entry", variant "single line"? | XM Community

For the question type “text entry” https://www.qualtrics.com/support/survey-platform/survey-module/editing-questions/question-types-guide/standard-content/text-entry/?parent=p001132#Variations in the variant “single line” I’d like to set a value in the “preview” mode.

According to my web browser console this question supports the following API:

The QX API docs https://api.qualtrics.com/82bd4d5c331f1-qualtrics-java-script-question-api-class I do was not really helping to understand the API to be honest. To be more precise: I do not understand what a choiceId is, what an answerId is, what a subId is, what a variableName is, … and I did not find any documentation about those.

Using jQuery we can achieve this by using below code:

jQuery(“#”+this.questionId+” .InputText”).val(“TEXT GOES HERE”);

Also you can use default choice option as well.

I’ve a “text entry” question configured like this:
 

with debugger breakpoint set in addOnload():
 

According to 

 jQuery is available out of the box and I do not need to CDN import it myself.

Default choice option does not work for me.
However still… in “preview mode” I’m not able to set text using jQuery:
 


 

Seems like Qualtrics changed the way how the built the UI. Even if I adjust the id selector it does not work.
 

Also the alternative syntax suggested here 

 does not work:

jQuery('#QR\\\\~' + this.questionId).val(“TEXT GOES HERE”);

@rondev Any suggestions about what I could try else?
