Anonymization of open questions | XM Community
Skip to main content

Hi together,

we have an open-ended question in our survey and would like to cleanse the responses of personal data. This means that if someone enters the name of an employee, this should be anonymized in the raw data. I have already done some research and there is this function in Qualtrics, I guess you can then upload a list of names. Unfortunately I can not find the function, does anyone have a tutorial or a tip for? The function is called Data Anonymization Feature

Kind regards

Baris

Hi BarisB,
I assume you're to anonymize the respondent's details? If so, Qualtrics have it in a support article here: https://www.qualtrics.com/support/survey-platform/survey-module/survey-options/survey-protection/#AnonymizingResponses
Note that you can only enable/disable anonymization for all responses - it can't be done selectively.
Hope that helps!

Thank you for the quick reply. I had already found the link and we have also activated the button.
But we are concerned about the free fields in a survey. So for example we ask: What can we still improve?
And if someone answers, please make sure that your employees Mrs. Müller is friendlier we have to anonymize the words "Mrs. Müller" for compliance reasons. Because otherwise a personal reference can be made. I had read that you can upload a list of names and a kind of algorithm then checks the raw data for names and anonymizes it.

The list of names could be database driven (jsonSource) or specified in the function call (addWords).

sounds very interesting. I am going to check this, thank you very much!

MicrosoftTeams-image (3).pngHello all,

I did some research and maybe someone will have the same problem in the future and find the solution here. The above function of Tom is a good workaround but the actual anonymization function of Qualtrics is hidden at "User Admin" "at Data Privacy" and then at "Sensitive Data Policy". There you can also upload topics like a JSON file. There the data will be anonymized before it is stored in Qualtrics.

Kind regards

Baris
