Applying "make answer exclusive" to all scale points in matrix | XM Community

Hi everyone! I have a new challenge in a survey I am creating.

I have “none of the above” set to exclusive” and when testing it applies this logic only to the first column.

In other words - if I have multiple scale points selected for different stmts - and then click “none of the above” - it only clears the first column (not at all likely)

I would like it to clear all selections - in other words - if “non of the above” - then no other selections in any column can be made.

How would l go about this?

Exclusivity is by column (i.e., answer). You could write JS to select all the ‘none of the above’ answers when one of them is selected.

I would avoid an exclusive statement altogether. It is confusing for the respondent and difficult to validate.  The same is true for ‘allow text’ on a matrix statement.

@TomG

Thanks for the reply!

In other words - you would recommend to remove the “none of the above” and instead make sure that there is not “forced response” set up?

For the “other” -  you recommend removing it. I have thought about this as it is also increasing our predicted survey time.

Do you find that this type of option deters panelists? Or is it the time it would take to analyze?

If you are concerned about survey time (i.e., length of survey), you don’t want confusing questions. it also makes analysis more difficult.

One thing you could do is add a multi-select multiple choice question (e.g., Which of the following arts events would you consider attending?) before the matrix with ’other - allow text’ and ‘exclusive none’ choices. Then carry forward the selected choices - entered text into the likelihood to attend matrix question. If they select ‘none’ skip the matrix.
