Graphic Design Question for Survey Report | XM Community

Hi, this is a question about how best to visually express results in our survey reporting. The survey consisted of about 50 questions - each one asking the respondents to provide a rating on a 1-5 disagree to agree scale. For each of the roughly 100 respondents, we’d like to compare their answer to each question vs. the overall average for that question. This could be done in or outside of Qualtrics in a straightforward graphical way, such as showing two bars on a bar chart (the overall average, their response) for each question.

But I’d appreciate any suggestions of ways to make that comparison more compelling or even just more visually concise since there will be a large number of questions for the viewer to digest. And if possible, something that could be produced within the Qualtrics Stategy and Research platform.

Thank you!

Bar and Line charts have a Comparisons field that you could use for this. See Item 6 on this page: https://www.qualtrics.com/support/vocalize/widgets/chart-widgets/line-and-bar-chart-widgets/?parent=p00734#SettingUp

The display options are limited. For example, you cannot label the comparison with the value, or change any aspect of its appearance apart from color. You might also run into issues when filtering your data. It calculates the comparison after applying dashboard and widget filters - you may need to filter at the metric level to get what you need. The issue there is that you would need to change those metric filters manually.

This all applies to survey projects - you might not run into those limitations if you have access to BX/CX dashboards, but I don’t have experience with those.
