Having both validation and allowing skips

Hey everyone,
I am in a situation where I would like to allow my survey takers to skip certain questions (Zip code for example) but would also like to validate the responses of that that would like to answer the question. Is there a way that I can have it both ways?

  1. Allow people to leave zip code blank

  2. Use the validation feature to ensure the answers I do get are real US postal codes

Is your zip code field part of a larger set of questions (like address, city, state, etc.)? If so, when you use a Form Field question, you can validate a specific line in the grid to accept only zip code, but let the respondent pass if that field is left blank.
