Help Needed: Redirecting Survey Participants Between Different Platforms | XM Community
Skip to main content

Hi everyone,
I’m currently designing a research study and would greatly appreciate your expertise!

I’m using Qualtrics for a survey, but midway through the survey, I need to redirect participants to another website to complete a specific task and collect data that cannot be captured within Qualtrics. After the task, I would like them to be redirected back to the same survey to continue answering additional questions.
Could anyone guide me on how to implement this? I’m also interested in knowing if it’s possible to collect identifiers, such as Prolific IDs or response IDs, from the first survey and match them with responses from the second survey to attribute data to the same participants.

As a marketing researcher with no background in HTML or coding, your assistance would be invaluable. Any advice or guidance on this technical challenge would go a long way in helping me achieve my research objectives!

Thanks in advance for your time and support!

Hi,

Let me know if this flow would make sense for your use case. You would have to divide your questionnaire in 2 separates surveys to do that.

  1. Respondent completes first survey and in your end of survey message, you include a redirection to the website where they have to complete the mentioned task.
  2. in the backend, a workflow is sending the second survey via email to your respondent while they are doing the task on the website.
  3. You let them know, at the end of their task on the website, that a second part of their survey has been sent via email and that they need to complete it.

You will probably lose people along the way but so would you with any process also I believe. This process would not be very complex to put in place. No need to use any code or anything, just ‘’regular’’ built-in Qualtrics features.

@rochak_khandelwal If you want to use 2 survey and use some ID to connect the responses. Then your IT guys have to help you there:

  1. Customize the End of Survey of the 1st survey to your website WITH the ResponseId as a querryString or something - you can do this part. https://www.qualtrics.com/support/survey-platform/survey-module/survey-options/survey-termination/#RedirectingRespondentsToAUrl
  2. Respondent to their task on the website
  3. Website redirect them to the 2nd survey WITH ResponseId of the 1st one as queryString. Your IT guys or whoever own the website need to do this part https://www.qualtrics.com/support/survey-platform/survey-module/survey-flow/standard-elements/passing-information-through-query-strings/

Hope this help

Hi @Nam Nguyen , thanks it helped. However, my problem just got updated.

Now I need a real world outcome as a dependent measure, e.g. social media share / donation to specific organization working in that area / signing an online petition. I am planning to ask participation for the same showing them a link (with an option to decline).

Is it possible to do either of these three through Qualtrics and more importantly count the number of participants who perform the action (so that I can compare effectiveness of intervention across control vs intervention conditions).

Thanks in advance for your time and support!
