How to divide participants into groups based on their mean score to a couple of statements? | XM Community

I am creating a survey in Qualtrics and want to divide the participants into two groups to randomly assign them to one of my two conditions. I want to do this by letting them answer to 10 statements on a 10-point Liktert scale in a matrix block. Based on the mean of their results to these statements they will be categorized as either a non-fan (mean score = 0 - 5) or a fan (mean score = 5.01 - 10). Consequently, they have to be randomly assigned to one of the two conditions.

How to do this? I know that I can change the survey flow, but I don’t know how to divide the participants into two groups based on their mean score on the 10 statements. Does anyone know this?

Hi @charjg18 ,

You can try setting up scoring values for the 10 matrix statement at the survey option.

Then, add an embedded data meanvalue and piped in scoring weighted mean.

Create two branch with the condition of “meanvalue is lesser than or equal to 5” and “meanvalue is greater than 5”.

This will help to split the participants into two groups by the mean.
