How to validate open-ended and multiple responses question types and allow to skip if preferred | XM Community

Hello! I hope you are well.
I am working on a questionnaire with open-ended questions preceded by closed-ended multiple-choice questions with multiple response entries available.
I would like to have open-ended questions set up to have a custom validation of a minimum of 1 character in the text box and an option to have participants skip the question if they do not wish to answer it.
What is the best option to use? I resorted to using "is displayed" and [or] "is not empty" for the open-ended question prompt. Will this cause issues during the data cleaning process?
In addition, I'd like the same option available for multiple-response entry questions. Is using a custom validation with "[question] "is selected" [and] "is greater than or equal to 1" (at least 1 response entry), and [or] "is displayed" a suitable option to use?
Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Would you be able to share a screen shot of the questions? If they are confidential you could obscure the text or create a replica with different text. That would help us better understand the issue and provide a solution. As described, it seems that you almost don't need any validation since you're allowing respondents to skip, but I have a feeling there's more to it.
