Large Scale Pre-Post Survey with Reminders | XM Community
Skip to main content

I am relatively new to Qualtrics. I am pretty proficient at the base level use, but we are now working towards a much larger scale project with a pre-post design.

I have tried reading through other instructions and questions and am still struggling on getting my project set up the correct way. I wanted to list the basic design of what we are doing and see if anyone has any good input or direction so that my dissertation will be successful (*fingers crossed*).

  1. Survey #1 - August 2024
    1. Reminder 2 weeks later
  2. Survey #2 - March 2025
    1. Reminder 2 weeks later
  3. Be able to connect survey 1 to survey 2 - so whether this is done as the same survey being sent out multiple times or 2 different surveys I don’t know which is easier?

Thank you for helping out this poor stressed PhD candidate!

Hi @katie_lee5. Could you please provide some more input to get a better understanding?

  • Do you aim for an anonymous survey or personalized survey links?
  • Do you use an authenticator? Do recipients need to authenticate via SSO or student ID?
  • Who will receive the survey? Is it the same target group for both? Is it possible that the same person participates in both surveys?
  • What is your goal by “connecting” the survey results?
  • What do you want to do with the response data (e.g., display all data in one dashboard)? What do you want to display in the dashboard?
  • Do you want to connect specific answers from survey 1 with specific answers from survey 2 or are the answers to both surveys not connected?

If you work with the same survey, I would define some embedded data in the survey flow like “Wave” and give it some value like “August 2024” for the first survey and before you distribute the next one adjust it to “March 2025”. This will already give you some easy instrument to differ responses from the first and the second execution. But to further consult, additional input would be good. 🙂

It does not need to be anonymous, just need to be able to connect the pre and post time points.

They will not need to use an authenticator,

It is the same target group for both - the goal is to have pre-post measurements, but if we do not get enough pre-post then they will be treated as two separate time points.

The goal is assessing the factors at 2 timepoints throughout an academic year.

I will need to pull the data into one SPSS file for analysis

It will be the same questions minus demographic info in both surveys

Hopefully that provided th info you needed!
