Pick Group Rank question to Dynamics increase size of image | XM Community

I am doing a survey that will assist in budgeting. I want to use the Pick, Group, Rank question to allow people to pick certain items and when certain items are picked have that add length to a single line/bar object below the question. However, this bar needs to have a max value, and the items need to have varying values.

Let’s say the items to pick from are ice cream, soda, brownie and cake. I only have $5 to spent so I need to choose from these choices and stay under the max value. The values of the items and the amount I have to spend need to be hidden but will cause the line of bar to grow by a certain amount and max out at a certain length.

Let’s say ice cream is 1$, soda is $2, brownies are $3, and cake is $4. So, in theory I could “pick” Ice Cream and Cake and proceed to the next page but if I try to also add a Brownie, I’d get an error message saying I’ve exceeded that maximum amount, and I need to adjust my items before I can continue to the next page.

Is this possible in Qualtrics?

I can use a different question type if needed. I thought the visual of dragging an item into a “cart” would be best to visualize what I want the respondents to see.

I am an experienced Qualtrics user but new to any sort of coding so any help in this would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, You can display the  amount next to item like the image below,

using custom validation, ensure that they can’t have more than 5$ and display validation message accordingly.

Or we can also do this using matrix table constant sum question type.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I appreciate the suggestion to use custom validation, I will give that a try. Is there a way to have an image of a bar graph below the question that grows in length in proportion to value of the item as I drag them into the box?
