Setting up a mixed between- and within-subjects design in Qualtrics | XM Community

Hi, I’m a post-grad student pulling together a project in Qualtrics - I am a total Qualtrics newbie, so please forgive me if this is a really obvious question.

I’m trying to implement a mixed design, where I have between-subjects conditions but also within-subjects conditions, but am having a lot of trouble trying to set this up in the survey flow.

I have two groups (high trust and low trust) which are the between-subjects conditions. Within the groups, there are two conditions for participants to work through (inconsistently true info and consistently true info). If helpful, there’s a screenshot of this below (first image).

I need to randomly assign participants to the high trust and low trust groups, and also counterbalance the conditions within the groups.

I find myself able to either randomly assign people to the between-subjects groups, OR set up within-subjects conditions, but I cannot figure out how to get the survey flow to do both! (image of my attempt below, second image).

I feel there is something obvious I must be missing, but would appreciate any advice or suggestions about trying to implement mixed between-subjects and within-subjects conditions. Many thanks!

I might be misunderstanding, but are there essentially 4 groups:

High Trust - inconsistently true info

Low Trust - inconsistently true info

High Trust - consistently true info

Low Trust - consistently true info

Hi - yes, you’re right, there are essentially 4 groups.

Could you have a block for each group and randomise between those?
