Survey not following proper order on Table of Contents - Skips around | XM Community
Skip to main content

We have a large survey with a Table of Contents.  We do not have any skip logic on any of the questions.  Our survey participants have experienced the survey skipping ahead and jumping around.  When they try to navigate back to a section in the Table of Contents, they are prevented from doing so, the only way they can go back to a section is by hitting the back button.

Has anyone had this happen before?

Again, no Skip or Display logic on any of the questions.  I was able to pull up the personalized survey link and see the error myself.  I clicked on a section in the Table of Contents and when I tried to go to a specific section, I was taken toward the end of the survey, and then when I navigated back to the Table of Contents I could not go to the desired section.  The only way back was to use the ‘Back’ button.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

How is your survey flow setup? Is each “section” broken up into a block for accessibility?

Actually, I found the answer.  The navigation arrows to move forward and back once a respondent answers the questions triggers the workflow to find the next block that has not been completed.  So if a respondent has already completed a block in between then it ‘skips’ those blocks until it gets to a section where they have not hit the forward arrow, or the ‘Next’ button.

I was able to fix this by entering a code to remove those buttons and have the respondents navigate through the survey by utilizing the Table of Contents page.

Thank you for being willing to help!
