Text entry responses are not registered | XM Community

Hi all,

I have a problem with my survey, but I have no idea what is going on. Here’s a short overview of the survey:

Participants see a word on one screen. Then, they go to another screen and see another word. Their task is to search for a relation between both words. On the second screen the text entry field is hidden until the participant presses space. When the participant presses space, the reaction time is measured with JS and embedded data fields and the text entry field appears. Participant fill in the relevant relations between the words in this field.

I created 14 different survey, with each survey having different words. I then created a sort of master survey in which I redirect participants to one of the 14 surveys. This is a screenshot of how I did this:

A participant did the survey yesterday, the reaction times were measured, but the words he filled in were not registered. He said he lost his connection and at a certain point restarted the survey from scratch. I saw that he did the survey using safari as browser. Could this be a compatibility issue between safari and qualtrics? Is there something wrong with the way I redirect participants to other surveys?

2 other participants did not have this problem and all was recorded well.

Thank you for your suggestions!

I’m wondering if this way maybe a one-off and he unintentionally navigated away or refreshed. Have you checked in data & analysis section of the survey to see if he maybe has a partial response? (This is assuming the link can be used more than once of course)

It happened to two participants now. The first participants’ reaction times are present in the output, but the answers to the text entry questions that had javascript in them, were not. The answers to text entry questions without javascript did not have this problem. This participant indeed had some connection problems, he told me (I know him), but he started the survey again and did every again from scratch.

However, something strange also happened with a second participant, he did the full survey but then his survey was not saved either. This time I have no data whatsoever, nothing, the survey doesn’t appear in the data analysis section, but I did get a message that the first survey (the one with all the links)  was opened by him. I also know he filled in the survey correctly, he showed me screenshots. However, he too was using a macbook, so he was probably also using safari. The two other participants who used chrome did not have this problem and all their answers are visible in the output.

I used a site to simulate a safari browser and I did the survey myself in safari and all went well.  Could it have been caused by a particular setting (or cookies, extensions) in Safari?

Thanks!

@GlennDM there have been issues earlier as well with Safari browser and Javascript usage. check out this post.
