Understanding browser cookies and respondent privacy | XM Community

I am trying to understand how browser cookies work and what the privacy implications are for my respondents. I want to run a survey that asks some potentially sensitive information that the respondents may not want other people in their life to see, e.g. if they share a computer. However, I would also like to provide the option to return and complete the survey later, and offer the respondent a choice about this.

I understand that if I use the setting to allow respondents to return and complete the survey later, that qualtrics uses a browser cookie to save progress. But what happens once they complete and submit the survey? Does the cookie get deleted? Are they still able to see their previous responses if they load the survey in that browser?

The best way to find out is to test. If you allow retakes, in my experience, after a person finishes their survey and submits, the end of survey message appears, and it is not possible to go back and edit responses anymore.

Survey once completed, cannot be accessed again by participant. Unless you issue a retake survey link which then allows respondent to go back and edit/view responses. I am not an expert in the cookies, but don’t believe it would be deleted on completion, as Qualtrics would use this to prevent multiple responses (if you set that up) etc.

If privacy is a key factor - contact support team to give an official response.
