I am looking at our processes for cleansing research data that will work best for our CX dashboards as well. We need to edit some response options if answered incorrectly e.g they record their answer in hours instead of minutes. However, best practice is to always keep a copy of the original data so until now these edits have been made after exporting and in a separate column within Excel. This means our dashboard calculates based on some incorrect response options.
It would be great if we could make these edits directly in Qualtrics so the correct responses are pulled into our dashboard but I can't seem to work out if we have the opportunity to export both the original responses AND the edited versions.
Does anyone know if this is possible and how I would do this?
Hi Mellissa!
I think what you're asking here is if there is a way to have two sets of data in your survey: one that has the original user input that would remain untouched, and one that has the original user input that you can alter to your preferences using the 'edit' fuction in the data and analysis section of your survey. There are a few ways to accomplish this going forward (some of which you may know about, so I'll list several)
To make things easier for future data:
You can force a particular type of response to a question using content validation (learn more about that here: https://www.qualtrics.com/support/survey-platform/survey-module/editing-questions/validation/
To set your survey up to be able to alter future data:
You can store your question response in an embedded data field in your survey flow (Add logic that says "if someone responds to your question, then store response as embedded data field Q1"). If you do this, a response will be stored twice- once in the actual question, and once in your embedded data field that you can alter using the "edit" function in the Data and Analysis section of your survey.
To update historic data:
You actually can create a copy of a particular data field in the survey itself that can be altered using the "Create Variable" function in the Data and Analyis section of your survey. The approach I list below will only work with number field variables. To do this:
- Go to the "data and analysis" section of your survey
- Click "tools"
- Click "create new field"
- Choose "formula"
- The formula will default to "x + y." Update it to only read "x."
- Set x = to whatever field you're hoping to alter
- This should create an additional field you can make updates to using the "edit" function in the data and analysis section of your survey
Hope I understood your question, and that this is helpful! Please feel free to respond with any questions or comments.
