drop-down response populate abbreviated data in the results/export?

I am creating a survey to collect data from my audience which will be provided to another group for reporting completion of assigned courses with numerical names in the database. The survey shows the course name (basket-weaving), while the system stores the course as a numerical ID (12345). Is there a way to have a drop-down selection in common language auto-populate a 'technical' response in the results/export? Eg. if in the drop-down, user selects "apples" the export shows "10," choose "berries" and export shows "20," choose "nuts" and show "30?"
