Email address validation (via Forms) isn't warning me of invalid email addresses. What's gone wrong? | XM Community

I'm collecting email addresses using the Forms option and have selected validate email addresses. When I test the validation in the survey's Preview link, I am intentionally entering incorrect emails to test the validation process but no warning or error messages are popping up like I'd expect it to if someone had really entered an invalid email address. What else am I missing to trigger the validation process or does it just not work in the Preview mode for some reason?
I have found that the validation for emails isn't 100% effective because the computer logic is only looking for characters before the @ and the . after it.

So an email like bacon@bacon.com will be considered valid even though as humans we know this could be a dummy email. The warning will pop up in preview if you entered: @bacon.com because there is no characters before the @
Thanks cma. It sounds like the better option is to have respondents use the 2-step validation process described toward the bottom of the page below - even though I'd hate to burden my respondents in this way!!
