When we have people upload a document/PDF to a qualtrics, we have them use a naming convention. However, when we down load the batch using the zip feature, the file name is preceded by a bunch of garbly letters and numbers and the file name is only the first few letters of the info needed. We want to be able to download a batch of uploaded documents without losing the file names / having to manually rename each and every file.

Hi Kim, I'm assuming you mean downloading from the Report page where you get a QID1_FILE_ID.zip file or similar when clicking 'Download all files'? If so, then this behaviour is by design as the survey participants might upload files with the same filename. The garbled characters before the filename in the zip archive refer to the response ID.
If you go to the 'Data & Analysis' tab and choose 'Export & Import' and then 'Export data' you can download a CSV file that contains all the submission information split into different fields. One of these fields will list the filename matching the original files submitted. You could try using that to rename the files in a batch process.
