Language detection - priority of the 4 detections | XM Community

Hi all,
Qualtrics has 4 different methods to determine the language that a survey is shown in, as indicated on https://www.qualtrics.com/support/survey-platform/survey-module/survey-tools/translate-survey/#SpecifyingTheParticipantLanguage:

  • browser language

  • language of the customer on the Contact List

  • Q_Language parameter in the url

  • manual selection

However, can anyone confirm the order in which these 4 methods are resolved, so which of the 4 methods takes priority?
So when a user's browser language is English, their language in the Contact list is Dutch, and the Q_Language parameter is set to FR (French), what language would the survey be started in?
Thanks,

Hi JoycaV - check out the Qtip found on this support page!

Qtip: Are you planning to distribute using language codes and wonder how that is related to respondent browser settings? Language codes in a contact list or query string are prioritized over the respondent’s browser settings. Regardless of the language they set in their browser, if you specify a language code for the respondent to take the survey in, then the survey will begin in that language. The respondent will still have the ability to manually change their survey language to any of the available translations.

Hi AmaraW,
Thanks, but that still leaves 1 option for which the priority is unknown: the Q_Language parameter in the url.
The Qtip only mentions that the language of the customer on the Contact List takes priority over the browser language. But not if the Q_Language url parameter takes priority over that, or not.
