Maximum Column Width of 200 error | XM Community

Hello!
I've just finished formatting a survey about expressions. I exported the data onto excel and realised that there was far too many unnecessary columns. Therefore i went to simplify my results by only selecting the columns that I wanted to see in excel. However, when I was selecting I got a message saying 'Error - Maximum Column Width of 200'. i was wondering if there was a way to bypass this for larger surveys who don't want all the excessive columns when they are exporting data?
Please let me know as I am very stuck!
Thanks!

Ideally you shouldn't be getting this error

'Error - Maximum Column Width of 200'
in excel, because since 2003. The max column width is 255. Which implies that the source of the error lies elsewhere and not excel. Is the survey in a language other than english? This could cause some characters not being parse properly and creating issues.
There are two things two can look at. One is to select the columns you want to export in Qualtrics itself. Read more here and here.
The other option would be use Excel's Power Query to import your data. You can select the columns you want over there in a GUI. If you are using a language other than english, you can also specify the encoding.
image.pngTo ensure that you are always working with the reduced dataset. After you have imported the required data, copy everything and "Paste Values" into a new excel sheet. And from there onwards, do all your analysis in the new excel sheet.
If you do not, because Power Query is a connection to the original file, if you make changes to it or delete it, then you'll loose your data.
