Hi everyone,
I would like to present written statements (i.e. the questions) to people which they can answer according to the formats below (see images). I want them to be able to:
1) select one answer (for example, "once a week")
2) allow them to select if this statement relates to them "6 months ago" OR "over the last month", OR both if they want to.
3) allow them to select if this relates to them "in person" OR "remotely", OR both if they want to
4) they HAVE to give 1 answer (image 1), or they have to give AT LEAST 1 answer (image 2).
Now, the images that I attached have the format that I want by using side-by-side. However, side-by-side would like to see every statement entirely answered (i.e, "daily", "once a week", "3 times a week", etc.) for ALL columns (while I would like also to give people the option to leave 1 column entirely blank) when I select the Force Response option.
The reason why I would like it in this format is because it reduces the survey length by a considerable amount, as it mainly consists of questions like this. Also, all the other options I tried just become too messy. I tried to solve this by using different question formats (Matrix, MC), Display Logic and Carry Forward Statements.
How can achieve the above mentioned points? Thank you in advance!!
Use custom validation.
Could you elaborate on that? The only way I can think of using custom validation is specifying that if no answer is given at all, for every option, to then send a force response. (so answer 1 = not selected AND type 1 in person = not selected AND type 1 remotely = not selected...etc).
But this still allows the user to just fill in only 1 reply in total (for example only selecting the type), and leave both the other columns entirely blank. They should fill in at least 1 column for each type (my apologies for not specifying that earlier).
For example; they might only have used type 1 in person 6 months ago.
It would be tedious to set up, but you need to OR the columns for each row and New Logic Set AND all the rows.
Okay, I tried to do what you suggest as it makes sense.
However, when I tried it out it still doesn't work (for example, I only tick a "6 months ago" option and it allows me to continue the survey).
I then changed some of the conditions to see if that would work; If type 1 is selected (or type 2, or type 3), and none of the columns is selected (i.e. 2x in person, 2x remotely) --> give error message.
But this still doesn't work (again, if I only tick "6 months ago" option it allows me to continue the survey
