Back to my previous query, I am wondering if, since my new code is pulling the response options label, is that why it isn’t being encoded as a value in the embedded variable?Do I need to convert that label into a text value that the embedded variable will then recognise as a ‘value’? If so, does anyone know how to modify my script to achieve that?
Hi @cgillon you can try doing this without the JS as well with branch logic and embedded data but it can prove to be lengthy as you said it can have as many as 100 options. After setting up your multi select question along with the randomization, go to the survey flow and follow the below setup. Value will be assigned to the embedded data if that particular choice is being displayed. You can use the value as per your wish, here I have used the term ‘displayed’, you can use your exact option name. I have only done for 5 choices, you can do for as many as you like. Thank you for taking the time to draft up this alternative approach. Just to confirm, in the case that there were 100 combinations, would this require creating a separate branch for each of those 100? If that is the case, it wouldn’t be feasible. I am trying to work out an approach that I can systematically apply with minimal manual work, as it will be used over a number of future projects with varying degrees of complexity.

Now that it’s working, however, I see that my script returns the value label of each of the options, whereas I ‘m wanting it to return the option name (e.g. if option ‘1’ =”Brand1”, I want to embed ‘Brand1’).Do you know how to amend the script to give this alternate output?

When piping the value in x you can get the piping for current loop. Hi Shashi,I’m sorry, but I didn’t understand your comment. How do I link in the current loop number to the existing piping for x? I’m thinking it would be something like…var x = "${q://QID1 + CurrentLoopNumber/ChoiceGroup/SelectedChoices}";...but I don’t know the correct way to write this.
Thanks for that.I just needed to change "${e://Field/Field1}" to "${lm://Field/1}" and that coded did the job.
Hi Shashi, Thanks for the responses, but have you not just permanently set ‘field1Value’ to equal "Category2"?I need ‘field1Value’ equal whatever the field is for the loop that I am in.i.e. if the loop is for Category1 or Category3, then options 1 & 3 won’t be hidden, but if we are in the loop of Category2, then the if-statement becomes active. What I just need is the right scripting reference to set ‘field1Value’ to be whatever the field is for the different block loop we may be in.

My apologies. I hadn’t understood what the code was doing, and thus hadn’t fully set up my test demo (I just had a crude version which didn’t yet have the ‘carry forward’ options installed). I had been thinking that the code would check the number of options selected at the previous question, but I now understand it is only checking the number of displayed options at the current questions, and thus the ‘carry forward’ step is key.I have set things up properly now, and the script is also working perfectly for me.Thank you for your help with this.

It looks to do what I was trying to achieve, but I’m unsure as to what this is doing, and why it succeeded where the simpler script failed (particularly since the failure seems to be limited to my survey version)
In my final code, Q2 won’t be shown at all. I’ll hide Q2 on load, then check to see if only one option has been selected at Q1. If only one option has been selected at Q1, then that option should be automatically selected for Q2, then the script will auto-advance to the next question.If more then one option has been selected at Q1, then those options are carried forward to Q2 and the respondent then selects one of those options as there #1.I’ve kept things simple for this testing stage, so there isn’t any other coding at work.
I was on ‘Flat’ layout, but switching to Simple didn’t make the code work.

Hi Deepak,Thanks for the reply.When you say to “enable variable names for your choices”, do you mean to turn on the ‘Variable Naming’ in the ‘Recode Values’ screen?I turned on the recoding, and tried that code, but it didn’t pre-select ‘Brand1’ when I previewed the question.
