Thanks. That could be next best. I would like to select out the respondents that have completed over 40 percent of the survey, and make a targeted pitch to them. So that pushes me in the other direction. I think the other route (just barely sketched above) will have other uses as well.
Thanks! This looks very good. Two potential problems: If one person takes the survey and uses a given zip code, won't the next person that takes the survey and tries to use the same zip code (since multiple respondents come from one zip code), be told by the authenticator that they have already taken the survey? Then that person won't be allowed to continue. If the respondent enters an invalid zip code, I don't want to force them to come up with a valid zip code in order to continue in the survey. If they want to insist on the wrong (invalid) zip code, who am I to judge? That is, in this case, I would rather not bug them until they come up with a valid zip code (one that is in my contacts list), since a valid zip is extremely helpful but not absolutely essential to complete the next question in the survey. Any way around these problems? Thanks.
The code seems to work very well. But I am wondering how the starting area shown in the map (or specifically, the "first" thing typed into the search text box) could be set by answers entered by the respondent in an earlier question. Essentially, I need to pipe the respondent's answer to a previous question ("type city name below" for example) into the search text box for the map question. How to pipe in a value from a previous question into a text box that is created through JavaScript? Thanks.
The problem that leads to "we are unable to connect to our servers" is not related to the matrix question auto-forward (at least as far as I know). Sorry about that. The cause of the problem appears to be the use of "In page" display logic and this code for auto-forwarding a multiple choice, single answer question: var that = this; this.questionclick = function(event,element){ if (element.type == 'radio') { that.clickNextButton(); } }
There may be a couple of other potential problems. One is the kind of matrix question that ends with an "Other -- specify" and asks for text entry with that response. When the respondent clicks on "Other -- specify" they will not have a chance to enter a verbatim response since the question will be forwarded to the next page automatically. The other issue I am less sure about. It seems that if an "In Page" display logic is used for the next question, there is a conflict between it and the Java script to auto-forward on the current question. Here is a message that I have received several times in this situation. ! I will let you know if this happens consistently. So far it seems to be a consistent behavior.

Very cool. Thanks. I don't find any problems in my tests, even if I change my answers or do the last statement first. The only concern is that there does seem to be a slight delay as the code is processed, which may to some extent defeat the purpose of auto-forward (though of course at least R does not have to click the Next button). Interesting. I did some testing, and only run into the problem in the following scenario: I click an answer for statement 1 and statement 2. Then for the third statement, I click one answer, change my mind and click another answer. I am automatically skipped to the next page. What is strange is that this behavior only happens with multiple clicks on the third statement, in combination with answers to statement 1 and statement 2. Thanks. That is a very helpful direction. There is a problem here though. If the respondent clicks on an answer for a given statement, and then changes their mind and clicks on another answer for that statement, that "extra" click counts toward the total number of clicks required before auto-forward is invoked. So in this situation the respondent could be forwarded automatically before they provided an answer to the last statement in the matrix (or more than just the last question if they change their mind a lot on the earlier statements). any ideas on how to deal with this? --David
I was able to create an embedded field that held the total number of parent-figures selected the by respondent. This was used to define the embedded field, "ParNum": $e{ q://QID1/SelectedChoicesCount + q://QID2/SelectedChoicesCount } However, this is not really a "supported" way to pipe text (I simply added the "Count" to the "SelectedChoices"). But it does work. So then setup a text entry question, and enter the ParNum embedded field as the default text entry response. Then use Java script to automatically forward to the next question (that way the respondent doesn't have to hit "next" on that screen). From there the total number of parent-figures is available to use in the display logic of later questions. If that number equals the total number of selections of the religion, say, "Catholic", then I do not display the question about the religion in which the respondent was raised (or any other question that is not necessary if all parent figures had the same religion).
