Thanks @TomG i know recode would treat it as the same; the branching relied on treating all “2” the same and all “0” the other way.But, i didn’t expect it would change the actual selection in that box and choose one of them (i think the last in the list of each respective recode value) to populate the response.To use the example in the Recode documentation: “Very well, Moderately well, and Slightly well would all be 2, and would contribute the same amount to the calculation of an average”It makes sense that they would contribute the same to the average, but it doesn’t make sense that they would all get changed to “slightly well”...but, that’s just me being grouchy.Thanks again for the clarification/confirmation
based on code from @ahmedA i have almost got an answer. The following will disable all options in column 1 BUT only if “exclusive” in column 2 is selected first.It won’t remove a selection in column 1 if that selection has been made prior to selecting “exclusive”.I know the standard functionality of radio buttons doesn’t allow un-selection (and i don’t really want to make them (or hope they will) physically un-select their choice even if they can.so, maybe this is as far as i can go. i can make “exclusive” its own column (the 1st), or a separate question, so that its selection will trigger the hiding of options before the user reaches it. Anyone have a better solution? Hi @jMakin You can do this via custom validation. Turn off the force response toggle and add the below custom validation. First logic set is for column 1 i.e., Category and second logic set is for column 2 i.e., Confidence. This will make sure that column 1 and 2 is not empty but column 3 can be empty to move forward. i like this so much, Thank you.Spent hours trying to tweak JS and this was right here all the time. This place is a steep and wonderful learning curve.cheers, jeff
What it does do is not allow the user to change the confidence setting whilst N/A is selected.That is not an issue for me because it is an End of Survey choice so their confidence has to be high to make this choice.But for others out there who may want to tweak it so that it’s a default that can be changed - how would that work?no pressure to respond, i’m sure you have plenty of other things to do.Thanks again

As an update: I figured it out. @Tom_1842 brilliant code (Simple Layout - CSS to remove right padding | XM Community (qualtrics.com) was all-inclusive for text-boxes whereas i only wanted the essay box to go full width.So, i amended it to read:/*essay text entries only*/#app.no-mo-compo-layout .te .question-content .resize-wrapper, #app.no-mo-compo-layout .te .question-content textarea { width: 100% !important;} I then managed to work out how to apply this globally to side-by-sides (in my case i reduced them to 75%, and applied a border just because: /*side-by-side table*/.sbs-table { max-width: 75% !important; border: 1px solid #00afdc !important;}If it’s ok with you guys i’ll mark this as the best answer - just in case it helps someone else easily find a solution to their similar problem.But, without a single doubt i would never have got close to this answer without the help of you all. Thanks @TomG and @Sachin Nandikol This means that in the form-wide css i leave off the !important for the textbox option - it should still make everything that specified size, but then, for the text i want to be smaller i write question-specific code that uses !important so it overrides the survey-wide style. That makes complete sense!The side-by-sides tend to spread full-width now too and look a bit silly so i’m searching for the correct element to globally size them back a bit. I think it’s .q-grid .q-mb-1 so i’m searching for that in the F12 Dev Tools.Thanks again
Thanks, once again, Sachin.I’m in Simple layout and did want to stay there.i was toying with the correct way to implement your suggestions, couldn’t get it to work but all the searching led me to discover that it was a padding issue as per Simple Layout - CSS to remove right padding | XM Community (qualtrics.com).Using the solution from there solved the problem. The issue now is that it makes all textboxes the full width (i actually adjusted that to 90%). That is perfect for my essay box but not for other boxes that only need small text entries.I am going to try to find a way to adjust them down to 50% or less.I am happy for any further help you are willing to provide to achieve this, but please don’t go out of your way. Part of the fun is the exploration to stumble upon the solution!
Thanks Sachin,sorry for the delayed response, i didn’t get around to testing this over my weekend.I didn’t know Default Choices worked with text boxes, Thanks.The only improvements i can think of is the add formatting (bold or underline) but html tags don’t seem to work in default choicesand then to increase the default size of the essay text box so that both headings in the ‘Yes’ box are visible. Some Custom css should fix that i assume - will trial that in a bit.Cheers, jeff
