Qualtrics has a nice search function when setting up display logic for a question. Let's say you are going to set display logic based on a question, and within the display logic box you search for the word "school". Qualtrics will display all questions which contain the string, "school", including questions that include the word "schooled". The "school" string does not have to be the first word in the question stem. All questions that have the word "school" anywhere in the question will be displayed for the programmer to select from. Nice. Now let's say the respondent is given a question asking them to select the type of organization that they volunteer for. Since the list of organizations is very long (say 528 organization names), the respondent is presented with a multiple choice, drop down list question, and told that they can type a few letters in the box to help them narrow down the organization choices (instead of scrolling through the entire list of 528 organizations). But whe
Wondering if there is any workaround for the problem that loop and merge fields cannot "hold" and display (conditional on language selection, which is available info in the embedded field, Q_Language) both French and English versions of question text. I know I can branch respondents to identical but separate blocks, one of which could hold the French translated loop and merge field, but was trying to avoid that (to keep all the data in one variable, not have to change display logic later in the survey, etc.). Any ideas? Thanks.
The overall puzzle is to skip a respondent to the appropriate place in a new survey based on their responses to a previous survey. About 50 respondents completed at least half of the original survey, and I would like to present these respondents with a short survey of key remaining questions. The idea is that many respondents will not at this point complete the entire survey, but they may be willing to answer a handful of basic demographic questions that would then make their existing data more useful for analysis. I used their emails to invite the respondents, and planned to use the information on where they left off the survey to tailor what questions they would see in the follow-up survey. I would like to skip the respondents to the question at which they quit the first survey, and then they can continue from there, completing the selected demographic questions that they have not yet seen. The name of the last question that the respondent completed is available in the Qualtrics
I have a question about the religion of each parent of the respondent. This matrix question uses drop down lists of many religions, and asks the respondent to choice one religion for each parent that is listed (each parent has a row, the drop down boxes are in the column). If each parent has the same religion, I want to skip the respondent out of the next question. But how to gather the info that could be used in display logic to skip the respondent out if all of their parent/parent-figures are reported to have the same religion? This becomes a little trickier because respondents will not all have the same number of parents/parent-figures. Some will have mother bio, father bio, step-father, etc. If they only have one parent, then there is not need to check to see if all parents are the same religion. Only parent figures that are selected in earlier questions are displayed in the matrix question (each has a row) that asks the respondent to pick a religion for each parent from a drop
Is it possible to assign an embedded data field to a value that is determined by a respondent's responses but is available in an (external) Excel file? For example: The respondent answers a question asking for their zip code (a text entry question). I have an Excel file that links each zip code with the latitude and longitude of the "center" of the zip code. I would like to define two embedded variables, one for the latitude and one for the longitude that corresponds to the zip code given by the respondent. There are solutions that use branching or drill down variables, but so far these would involve too much work (one branch for every zip code in the US for example), or would require the user to select the lat and lon after picking their zip code. Kind of awkward to have the respondent see the lat and lon at all. Would like this process to happen behind the scenes. Thanks.
When respondent's select a school from a long drop down list, or in a drill down (state, city, school), I need to be able to link that school (name) to the school id. I don't want the respondent to see the school id -- they only select the school name. But when I download the data, I would like to have a variable for the school name AND a variable that shows the corresponding school id. The number of schools and ids could be as high as 30,000. Not sure if this is baked in somewhere or not. Can't seem to find anything for this situation. Thanks.
How can I make my survey auto-advance using JavaScript so that... after a person selects one answer for each statement in a matrix question (single answer allowed for each statement), it auto-advances to the next page? Thanks. --David
Is there a way to use Java script to record in the dataset whether the respondent hit the "back" button on any given page?
