Authenticating against a contact list - registration survey

dduross Would you be willing to collaborate on the survey with me? I am afraid I can't work out what is happening without that. It looks like a test survey anyway. I won't be able to see the contact list, but I should be able to see just about everything else. Note that I won't be able to work on this until after work today. Rett

Hi dduross,OK, just so you know, you can put actual text in for the embedded data. Overwrite the text that says value will be set by panel or URL.You can also pull data from the panel. It was not clear if you knew that. If you check to see if checking off allow authenticating respondents to retake authenticated section produces the result you want(in options on second authenticator). I don't think so, but it is quick and easy to check, so thought I would suggest it. Do you want a new survey every time they take the survey?

Hi dduross , MichelleC is at my institution. I may have helped solve her problem offline. Should have posted info here. So a little about debugging and a potential issue in your flow. 1) I suspect that email is not the name of the field passed via shiboleth. Your IT should have the specific string of letters and numbers that pulls that information. See debugging info below. Debugging survey flow. You need to make sure that individuals are going down the path you expect. This requires a little old school debugging. 1) Use Embedded data to help you figure out what is happening. a. add embedded data in the survey flow. add embedded data blocks in the survey flow to add data so you can figure out what logic has been triggered. I often have different events occur based upon conditions (kick out of survey because don't authenticate, authenticate one way but not another, pass to another survey). I use an embedded data field to indicate the outcome. This proves useful if someone emails and a

Hi KatDat and Jed , I may be misunderstanding how you have set this up, but if you set the javascript up at the question and use jQuery('.QR-'+this.questionId).autocomplete({source:textOptions})});to set the autocomplete, at least in my surveys, it only impact that particular question. Autocomplete does not occur in any other questions. Do not put it at the page level.Rett

Hi @Pradyp , No additional settings required. The survey recipient can pull in as many items as they wish. The warning does not occur until they hit the next button at the bottom of the page. Below is how I set up my question. When you try the survey in survey preview mode (Blue button at top right of screen), you will not see the message until you hit the arrow at the bottom of the page after pulling the items into the group. !

Send an email to the recipient and his/her manager once the survey completed

Hi @Hemanth_123, I only have access to research core, not experience management, so my answer does not take adantage of some items you may have access to. The answer relies upon using a contact list which includes manager information with each employees contact information. In contact lists you can add embeddd data including other email addresses and names. You can therefore create fields such as managerFirstName, managerLastName, and ManagerEmail for each employee. Then the person either 1) authenticates in or 2) responds to an individualized link, you can pull the information in via the survey flow. You can then use the email address of the recipient and manager in either email triggers or actions following completion of the surveys. So this will use 1) a contact list 2) individuals links (sent via qualtrics distribution) or authenticators (in survey flow) 3) survey flow to get embedded data fields (manager information) 4) email triggers or actions There are a few working

Hi @Pradyp, The way Qualtrics works is it allows users to make mistakes and then prevents them from submitting and tells them about the mistake (see image below). This is true for many of the question types, not just group and rank. There are some philosophical advantages to this. You are more likely to get an answer that someone has thought about, but it does seem to fly in the face of expected behavior and is potentially irritating to the survey recipient. The preview is fine for getting an idea of how a question will work, but taking the survey is required to really test the questions behavior as they interact with validation, survey flow and display logic. I create lots of test surveys when I am working on a new question type to get the full experience before including it in a complete survey. ! Good luck. Hope this answers your question. I don't have much experience with embedding videos in Surveys. I suspect the issue is related to the reference to where the video is located and when the state of the windows is loaded. Qualtrics maintains a pretty tight control over when things happen on the page. I don't know how accurate referencing window will be to get it's state. It might be referencing a window that appears to have already closed or a different window than you expect completely. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Hi @maketintel, I am not sure what you mean by the not showing the autocomplete after it has been selected. Regarding setting the last 4 characters to control survey flow, Qualtrics does not have any string manipulation functions. You should be able to use the javascript substring function. Look down on the page to find where they use a negative value to start from teh end of the string. https://www.w3schools.com/jsref/jsref_substring.asp Once you set the value in the question, you should be able to extract the last for characters in the string and use that to set an embedded data variable which you can then use to set survey flow. You should probably use the onchange state for the question. When I work these things out I usually set up a test survey and play with the code there before I put what I have figured otu ito a larger survey. I would suggest you do that as well. How to create a nested design?

dear @evans , As I understand it, you have three factors (1,2 and 3) that are randomly assigned to an individual. You can either use randomization or quotas to force people down different paths resulting in an equal distribution across treatments. I am assuming that you are not working with a contact list where you can preassign individuals (which would be simple and allow simple display logic or if/then statements). It also looks like you only have 2 conditions for factor 4 (1234 and 5678). In which case you only need 2 images. On the other had if you have 1 of 4 conditions to each of the S and P factor, you can also use either survey flow or display logic to show or hide the images within the groups (if in treatment P randomly show one of 1-4, if in group S randomly show one of 5-8). You can use the description question type to include the images and display logic to hide all but the relevant option. In short, this all boils down to either quotas or randomization with display

@mylegshurt, weird things can influence the javascript. My advice is to try to test really small simple, build slowly to find out the point at which the code breaks. You don't have a nice IDE to work with, so you have to go old school. For instance, I found that code for a question I had worked until I added an SSO Authenticator block into the survey. Sorry I can't be more help. I know that coding that way is frustrating. Please flag me if you find out where in the code it stops working. I would like to better understand issues associated with coding in the Qualtrics environment. Also note that you can add jquery, which may allow you to find another way to get at the item. You would need to make a link to the jquery library in the header portion of the look and feel of the document.

Is qualtrics accessible in China, both form university and home IP addresses ?

Hi @CarliO , We run a survey that includes students from china. They are able to take the survey. That includes logging in with single sign on. Some staff went to china and I had them test just to make sure it worked. There did not seem to be any issues. That said, the policy on access in China can be a moving target, but given that Qualtrics does not provide content, it is unlikely that it would be blocked.

Hi @AnthonyR , We talked briefly at the X4 meeting. You suggested I ask my question in the forum so others could share. I would like to have required responses based upon the condition of an embedded data field. I have a one page survey, the embedded data is coming from the contact list. So the idea is that if someone is in a particular group, they are forced to answer the questions. If they are not in the group, they still see the questions but they are not required to answer them. @AnthonyR Can you explain how the '.QR-'+this.questionId works to identify the specific question? I know that + concatenates 2 strings and this refers to the current object (but I thought that would be the document as a whole). So this gets to how to use DOM and jQuery. I am documenting the process in a QSF file with a descriptive text question as the first question in the survey. I want to try to describe how the elements fit together so the process can be replicated by someone with limited programming knowledge and potentially applied in other contexts. Once again, really appreciate your time and knowledge! Thanks!

@AnthonyR , This is GREAT! I tried it out but it would be helpful to specify the question so if you have more than one textbox, you can put different lists in each of the textboxes... so how do you properly reference a given question. The attached survey includes 2 text questions which are supposed to have different options (one uses textOptions and the other uses textOptions2) because textOptions2 is loaded second, those are applied to both text input boxes. Sooo... sorry to ask such a basic question, but how do I reference the specific question in the jQuery autocomplete statement. Thanks!! P.S. sorry for sending so many posts.

@AnthonyR , I am going to test out the code, but I think that the jquery text solution should work based upon what I saw here (https://jqueryui.com/autocomplete/). Just so you know I tried the code above, and it works to hide the questions, but if a required question is hidden through standard display logic, it is not triggered. When I hide required questions with the code above, there are issues with it completing the survey with the next button and going back into the survey with authentication on using the option to be able to go back into the survey. In short, I think that there is a special way they are hiding the questions through the prototype DOM that is different from standard Javascript methods. Then again, in my background, I tend towards database and statistical work, not writing Javascript.

Hi @AnthonyR , One more item that would be good to see. Conditional required responses based upon embedded data in a single page survey (no page breaks or blocks allowed). It is possible to hide questions based upon embedded data, but not with in-page display logic. I wrote the following script, but I think the hidden trait is not used to hide questions the same way as Qualtrics hides questions. !

Hi @AnthonyR Regarding item number 1. Actually, with pulldowns, it already jumps to the correct section. The issue is that with a list of employers or universities, people often put information prior to the meat of a name, or the organizations name is somewhat burried within the name. for instance "The Ford Motor Company". "Fiat Chrysler" (when you are interested in Chrysler), and for Michigan Universities it would be nice to get all universities that include Michigan in the name (Michigan State, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, etc). Hi @AnthonyR , 3 items for multiple choice questions 1) type a portion of the answer and the list is restricted to those that include that text</u>. This is pretty standard in online forms now. So if I type survey, the list would include... > survey > the best survey > other surveys > the survey of all surveys 2) make a <u>multiple choice options pulled from an online source</u>. So as things change, you just change the data, not the question. We have a list of 2500 companies. The names of those companies change every year. I would love to have the list pull from a web based source rather than have to manually change the options. This would require that the selected options be saved as text in embedded data obviously. 3) When someone takes a survey in another language, if you set embedded data of a multiple choice question, it saves it as the language it was taken in. That makes perfect sense, but I would like to determine a
