I think the only "scary" movie I saw this year was Ghostbusters Afterlife. I'm not the target audience for scary movies

https://community.qualtrics.com/XMcommunity/discussion/comment/50454#Comment_50454I definitely see your point about Halloween now being forced upon the unwilling internationally 🙂 When I moved to Germany (many, many) years ago, no one knew what Halloween was, and I had to explain it to people. Now, Halloween parties are all the rage. Amazing and bewildering how it has caught on. Personally, not a big fan of the holiday as an adult, but for kids, it can be fun.
Oh and yes, the whole taking candy from strangers thing is very odd, when one thinks about it!

I love the classics - Halloween series and anything Stephen King.

Nightmare on Elm Street is a very scary movie. It dives into dreams and how dreams can be real which is a scary thought. All of the Freddy Krueger movies are scary to be honest. If you haven't seen this movie, you should watch it and be ready to lose some sleep that night.

StMaarten.jpgWith Halloween seemingly having its roots in paganism and early (Irish/Scottish) Christianity, it only became popular in the Netherlands in the last decade or so along with other fads like Valentines Day that blew over from the US. Apart from the spooky aspect, a key activity is kids going door to door to collect sweets. Which the Dutch children traditionally do on November 11th as part of Sint Martin's Day where they carry a lantern and sing songs in return for candy.

https://community.qualtrics.com/XMcommunity/discussion/comment/50313#Comment_50313Halloween is a contentious one here in Australia. It's certainly not an Aussie tradition, but retailers continue to push it more and more each year. There are plenty of people who love and embrace it, and plenty who have zero interest in it, however - no offence intended to anyone here - with the ever-increasing influence of American culture through television and movies etc, it's probably here to stay.
I must admit I've always thought it was ironic that we teach kids they should never accept candy from strangers because it's not safe (except for that one night of the year when it's apparently perfectly acceptable and safe to do so). 🤨
Sarcasm/jokes aside, for those who do love and celebrate Halloween, then I wish you a very Happy Halloween! 👻🎃
https://community.qualtrics.com/XMcommunity/discussion/comment/50395#Comment_50395Absolutely love the Alien series! The first 2 movies are classic sci-fi horror 😊
https://community.qualtrics.com/XMcommunity/discussion/comment/50399#Comment_50399You beat me to it MattiasM! I always felt that Event Horizon was such an underrated sci-fi horror flick!! I actually got my hands on the novel and read it many years back. If memory serves me correctly, it contained some additional freaky scenes and descriptions that were tweaked (or cut) from the final movie release.

MelissaW I don't know about you but The Nightmare Before Christmas used to give me a whole lot of scary nightmares as a kid 😂 🍅

I prefer the Halloween movies that are more fun than scary. Along the lines of the 31 nights of Halloween movies: Hocus Pocus, Nightmare Before Christmas, Frankenweenie, Beetlejuice. More seasonal nostalgia than screams. 🍅
(Also, I think that is a tomato emoji ⬆️ and not a pumpkin, but I am just going with it!)

aldryn_vega I love that series! I cannot watch those movies alone at all - I need a light on and a movie buddy 😂

https://community.qualtrics.com/XMcommunity/discussion/comment/50395#Comment_50395I thought Annihilation was so underrated and overlooked - it is an incredible and visually stunning film! I absolutely love the Alien series and movies like Prometheus! Did you watch the new predator movie Prey? I felt like it was missing a lot of the storyline that the Alien series offers, but it was still fun to watch 😁

I think it's not only my favorite spooky movie, but my favorite movie overall: The Nun. It is part or the saga of The Conjuring and the way in which they follow the timeline, the study of the cases, the interpretation of the characters and mainly, the soundtrack, make this movie and the complete saga my favorite. I'm also a big fan of Dan Brown and Stephen King, so I really like to read their books by this season.

I always liked Sci-fi shows but nowadays i like all the shows related to my job field (financial services) , and this year was marked by "Industry" HBO show; that remminds me whe i was doing my high potential internship. If you ever work for this industry or never, probably you will connetc with the trama or you will notice a lot of facts and taboo's of finance industry.

https://community.qualtrics.com/XMcommunity/discussion/comment/50395#Comment_50395Sci-Fi horror instantly makes me think of Event Horizon. Truly uncomfortable :D

Neither my partner or I are big into horror, but we do both enjoy Sci Fi horror films!
Although they neither of them are new, honourable mentions include Alien and Annhilation - we saw Annhilation off a whim on Netflix and loved it. Now whenever I see a lighthouse I think of that movie (no spoilers) :)

I try to avoid all things scary...which is why Hocus Pocus is my go-to Halloween movie (and I'm looking forward to watching Hocus Pocus 2 this month!)
I do watch a lot of true crime though, and that is scary on a whole different level...so eventually I'll get around to watching Dahmer.
And although it's probably not scary at all, my plan this Halloween is to watch Ghostbusters (because I've never seen it, and it's a classic, right?!) 😄

I love watching the movie Clue this time of year. A good sense of mystery with plenty of laughs! There's also multiple endings so if you don't like it at first it'll change to something different.

https://community.qualtrics.com/XMcommunity/discussion/comment/50338#Comment_50338I actually am obsessed with this show and think it's hilarious! You are the only person I know who watches it too! 10/10 Amazing show!

https://community.qualtrics.com/XMcommunity/discussion/comment/50318#Comment_50318JoycaV, JessicaGregory_CHNw & ManfredBM I absolutely LOVED season 4! It was SO good and SO spooky. Here in the states, some people get really into decorating their homes for Halloween. Some families even went viral on social media for their Stranger Things decor. Here is a video of this family that went viral for their yard decorations, which included a floating Max

To bring something new to the table, I'll recommend "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken", which stars Don Knotts. Knowing the star, you have an idea what kind of fun nonsense you'll get with this. It has several lines my family often quotes. Kind of highlights how very far from dark my "spooky" tastes are (hence why I also enjoyed "Hubie Halloween").

I have to watch at least a few of the Halloween series films. Just something simplistic about Michael Meyers. I'm the only one in my realm of people that is into horror. Also, The Omen is a classic.
Stranger Things to me is Sci-Fi, not horror but I understand what is a little spicy to me is napalm to others.

Without a doubt, my absolute favorite Halloween movie of all time is "Young Frankenstein". Hands down. I'm not a huge fan of scary movies, but a good hearty laugh is something I'm always up for. https://community.qualtrics.com/XMcommunity/discussion/comment/50321#Comment_50321I saw the "Smile" trailer in the theater last week. I'm with your wife - hard nope for me - I was hiding my eyes! 🙂 I do hope you get to see and enjoy though!

You have to check out the Evil series! It started out on Netflix, and moved to the Paramount+ channel. Season 3 aired this year, and it just keeps getting better.
It's very quirky, filled with dark humor, horror, romance and amazing characters you will absolutely fall in love with (or love to hate...)!

Love Hocus Pocus, and so excited that Disney released Hocus Pocus 2!

I was getting ready to say that I don't like scary things but then:

  • I LOVE Stephen King books (especially the Dark Tower series)

  • I'm a fan of Stranger Things and Lovecraft Country

  • I like Get Out and tolerate Cabin in the Woods...but think all Hitchcock movies are great.

So I guess maybe I do like scary things! Haha!
