I have a survey that has been running for months, and for part of it, it is constantly appending data to an embedded variable, which gets quite long sometimes (~100k characters). This has not been a problem until midday on March 11, when suddenly Qualtrics started truncating the embedded variable on subsequent responses (at least a dozen now). To reproduce this, create a survey with two embedded variables (say, test1 and test2), and set their values to long strings programmatically:Qualtrics.SurveyEngine.setEmbeddedVar("test1","t".repeat(50000));Qualtrics.SurveyEngine.setEmbeddedVar("test2","t".repeat(100000));For me, the var "test2" is recorded as 70,000 "t" plus an ellipsis "...".Is this an intended change? Or is this something to do with my account hitting a hidden data storage size limit or something?
For a multiple choice question, my impression is that getChoiceValue() returns whether or not the option is selected. Is there a function to instead return the text value of the chocie? For example if I have choices “East”, “West”, “North”, “South”, and I did fn(2), it would return “West”?
I have an old experiment that grabs text using a web service, and then pipes it in to some questions. My text has carriage returns and newlines in it. Inspecting the raw data transmitted by the web service, it looks correctly formatted, e.g. “Note that in this experiment, white, grey, and black are considered “colors”.\r\n\r\nYou will also be able to provide more information to us” This worked for a long time, but sometime in the past couple years something changed and now the \r and \n are no longer being respected: I just get one block of text. I know that this worked before because I have screenshots that show everything correctly formatted. Did Qualtrics change the way it parsed this? Or did something else change? I feel like I noticed recently that copy/pasting text with newlines into the basic Qualtrics question editor no longer respects them (I now need to open the rich content editor in order to preserve them). I’m wondering if this change is linked?
I have a complicated question I designed (with lots of Javascript and so on) which I will reuse many times in many different surveys. It would be nice if I can centralize it so that I can update it and the update automatically applies to all of the places I’ve used it in all of my surveys. For example, if I want to put out a survey now, and later rewrite the code to make it mobile friendly, I could change the design to be responsive in just one place, and now all that question in all my surveys would be responsive.This seems like a perfect example of when I’d want to use a Reference Block. The problem is, I want to be able to present this question inside a loop and merge (i.e., I want the reference question to include ${lm://Field/1} in its text, with the loop and merge fields being survey specific), and I can’t figure out how to insert a reference block in such a way that it allows me to add a loop and merge in the target survey (rather than in the reference survey).Is there a way to
I have a Qualtrics question that involves participants drawing on an HTML5 Canvas element, and then saves their drawing (using dataToUrl). Below, on the same page, is another question that has forced response enabled. I need it to be on the same page as the Canvas question.The issue is that when Force Response is triggered, the page essentially refreshes - any code in Qualtrics.SurveyEngine.addOnload() is triggered again, meaning that all the canvas initialization scripts are triggered again, erasing whatever has been drawn.Is there a way to stop Force Response from re-running whatever is in Qualtrics.SurveyEngine.addOnload?
Hello,My surveys recently stopped working for users that have uBlock Origin enabled. They throw error message 500 and fail to load some portions of the survey (see attached screenshot for an example).Disabling uBlock Origin fixes the error, but I cannot ask my participants to do this, and the error just started happening so this seems like a bug of some sort. There are a couple reddit threads (here, here) that seem to point to some change happening this week.Is there something that Qualtrics can do to fix this or is this a bug on Origin’s side?
Hi all,This morning I noticed that the Loop and Merge screen dimensions are bugged: the fields flow off screen, and the spacing is all wrong. This happens for me across accounts, across browsers, across new vs. old surveys, and with/without an external monitor plugged in. Any idea what's going on? Is the fix on my end or on Qualtrics'?
I have a embedded variable that I append information to (so I can track stuff within a loop and merge) each trial. The problem is, when force response is triggered (the subject doesn't respond to a question), it "reloads" the page, and triggers all the Javascript to run. If I have a code block in addOnUnload (or anywhere, really) that takes an embedded variable and appends something to it, it will append something twice for that trial.Is there any way to avoid this? I.e. some function/event listener that will ONLY trigger when the survey advances to the next page?Minimum reprex: Create an embedded variable testvar. Create a question with force response. Add javascript to the unload block for that question that sets testvar to testvar + "," + Math.random(). Run the survey, do not answer the question, and keep trying to click next. This will keep appending a new random number to testvar. Instead, I want this to happen only when the survey advances successfully.
I have a web service that returns a comma-separated list (with number of items varying from ~10 to >100), which I can turn into an array. What I would like to do is create a loop and merge that pipes each value of this array into a question. I imagine that I'm going to want populate a hidden question's answer choices with the values, then have the loop and merge loop through the choices. But I have no idea how to do this when the number of answer choices will be variable. What's the best way to do this?
