Hi @Elitza_17, This is what I use. It basically "hides" the button visually for the respondent until they click somewhere on the slider, which gets the trick done. Hi all, Upon further inspection, turns out that my answer choices in the multiple choice questions had CSS and additional formatting in them, which apparently messed up bringing them into the Javascript. Removing that formatting so that they indeed contained only the words did the trick.

I currently have my questions randomizing the order the "Items" are presented and it works fine. As for randomizing the "Groups", I think it should still work. The "group0", "group1", etc. id's I think should just be referring to whichever group is placed in some positions around the page, so as long as you're just counting in the same way for all of them it should work fine. Of course, you'd probably lose the way to refer specifically to the count of a specific group (say by putting that in the HTML of your question and saying "You have picked X items to be in group Y", if group Y could for any respondent be group0, group3, group7, etc. (though I'm sure there might be a way to find out which group is in what position?).
Actually, thanks for the inspiration @TomG! By just changing the event to be a mouseover instead of click, and defining a couple of variables to keep track of when the first click on the slider has been made, I've been essentially able to "hide" the handle on the slider and make it "visible" to the respondent where they first clicked (even though it's already been activated in the background when they first hovered over anywhere in the slider). Thanks! This actually gets me like 90% of the way there already. I'll try to figure out if I can change the look of the handle to make it even less visible while still having it "activated" once someone hovers over the slider's track.

I managed to figure this out. On the addOnReady part of the question's Javascript, I adde (the second bit of code is hiding the handle on the slider until the respondent first clicks on the slider's track, and prevents the values of the slider I'm feeding into the page from being updated until that happens, since I have a mousemove function). The key bit is essentially the "else" statement where I say that if the slider's value is above 50, then just reset it back to 50 with ` jQuery(".ResultsInput").val(50);`. Figured this out; it's rather simple with some JQuery. Because I can't paste JQuery or Javascript code on here, even when formatted, I'm including a snapshot of the code I use, which updates the counter variables whenever the mouse is moved on the page. Anyone who might want to use this just needs to replace the selectors for the groups, and of course include in the question HTML a `<span class="total0"></span>` and `<span class="total100"></span>` , or however they wish to name their variables, along with whatever formatting or extra text they want to display those counters with. I see... Apologies for my ignorance, but not sure how I should be updating my code. Do I take my HTML code to display my counter, and simply replace `<span id="varname">` with `<span class="varname">` in that HMTL code inside of the javascript snippet you helpfully shared with me? As for the jQuery HTML command, I'm pretty sure I'm using the Javascript command `document.getElementById("total1").innerHTML=total1;`, so I'm assuming I need to replace that with something like `jQuery("#total1").html(total1)` or something like that? I'd paste my code here but I keep getting an "Access Denied" error every time I try pasting jQuery or Javascript code on here, even when I format it as Code (Qualtrics has been made aware of this issue).
I see; thansk @TomG! If I wanted the text at the bottom to include some of the Javascript variables I created, how exactly would I make that happen? The counters I make use the HTML I included above in my original question, so I tried replacing the "New text at bottom of question" in your JavaScript snippet with that same exact HTML, making sure to change any " to \\" to make the quotation marks work (unless I'm mistaken in this). While it shows the text I want, it definitely doesn't update as the radio buttons are clicked. Is there anything I'm missing? Since I'm appending the text when the screen is loaded, I'm imagining that it doesn't update at all like the counter above the question does? How can I get that to happen?
Hi Emily, thanks your response! I kept getting an error message even after code formatting, for some reason. Formatting worked okay for a bit of CSS/ HTML code I included in the answer, but not the Javascript.
I had this exact same issue happen to me like a week ago (I would always get the correct ranking, but then the items were ordered 2, 9, 3, 4, 5, ..., 8, 1, 10, 11, ..., 16), without randomization of the answer choices. I emailed Qualtrics Support, and their suggestion was that I move the Rank Order question with the issue to a new block, as the one that currently contained that Rank Order question had a bunch of earlier questions with a lot of Javascript and CSS on them (the CSS directly referred to the ranking displayed from some Pick, Group, and Rank questions). This solved the issue. Hope this helps! It's not a direct solve and it would seem like there's some issue with the Rank Order question being displayed, but moving the question to a new block solved the issue for me.
I've managed to figure this out. Haven't gotten an answer back from Qualtrics Support, but as a (non-ideal) work-around for now, I just made multiple choice questions following all my PGR questions, carry forwarded the item in each group I wanted as choices (using "Selected Items in Group: xxxx") from the relevant question in the survey. Because there'd only be one item per group, that would leave me with just one Displayed Choice per every multiple choice question, which I made hidden and made Qualtrics automatically click to go to the next question with some Javascript. That way, I can access my "ranking" as piped text with ${q://QID69/ChoiceGroup/DisplayedChoices}, for example. Not pretty, and required one hidden/auto-clicked multiple choice question per item, but it works, in the absence of a specific feature.

Hi everyone, Apologies for reviving an older post. @TomG, I tried your helpful suggestion and it worked for me, but I was wondering if by any chance there was a way to have the handle appear on whichever spot the respondent first clicked, rather than at the leftmost corner? I had the same question as the person who originally asked this (https://www.qualtrics.com/community/discussion/932/no-default-on-graphic-sliders-sliders-in-general#latest) and we're worried that if there is no handle visible at first, but when the person clicks on the slider it appears in the leftmost corner, there'll still be an issue with anchoring the respondent to the leftmost corner of the slider and that they won't sufficiently adjust away from it when responding. It'd be super helpful if the handle could appear on the value the person first clicked on the slider, if that makes sense. Thanks!
Hi @Samarth, Thanks for your response! I actually mean that I'd like the button that one slides on the slider to not show up at all until the respondent clicks on the slider, if that makes sense. So if I don't select a Custom Start Position, unless I'm mistaken, the slider would begin with the "button" on the most leftmost corner, as you indicated, whereas we don't want it there or anywhere at all as a matter of fact (i.e. not even with it in the middle, as a Custom Start Position). I'm just hoping I could find some sort of CSS or Javascript code that would have the button/tab/thing you slide not be visible at all until the respondent decides, to avoid having respondents be anchored to allocating more to the left corner, or to much to 50-50, etc. Hope that's clearer, and thanks again!

I was actually trying to change the size of the containers where we drop the items in, but your suggestion pushed me in the right direction so I was able to figure it out with a bit more sleuthing.
