@AndyMc, I have no idea. All three of us should submit a feature request for it! I did a feature request as well. Let’s see if we get back this pretty rudimentary API endpoint...
@Tom_1842 Thanks a lot for the hint. Some data we profile with EmbeddedData already. In this specific case however it’s not possible for us to use EmbeddedData based pre-filling. We need to go via the official QX API or using some browser based workaround.
@Tom_1842 The way how rows and rows need to be indexed is like usual rows via choices. columns via answers is different from the usual pattern. I’d assume that for other side by side matrices and data types the id will just lack “~TEXT” means “QR~QID#1~9~1”.

Means we cannot identify cells.Your workaround suggestion works for me as well if the matrix cells are of type string (→ TEXT). In other cases the id will be different I guess.
@Tom_1842 I’ve opened the survey in “overall survey preview”. I don’t use “single question preview” cause it does not work in my setup.Other than that I could only think of that the QX UI could vary depending on QX instance/runtime deployed in some region. I’m located in Germany. Other than that I don’t know what else it could relate to.The slider is pretty standard actually:
@Tom_1842 Actually nothing from the official API docs worked for me so far: I have and tried everything from the official API docs (https://api.qualtrics.com/82bd4d5c331f1-qualtrics-java-script-question-api-class#methods) - setChoiceAnswerValue ( choiceId answerId value) - setChoiceValue (choiceId [subId] value ) - setChoiceValueByRecodeValue (recodeValue [subId] value ) which made sense somehow including probably undocumented variants already without success. For all of those I got completely mis-leading return of true (“true if success”) and the UI does not show the updated value: Same for all other variants I tried yet. @Tom_1842 Those API calls do not make much of a sense actually. However just for the sake of completeness:
@Tom_1842 I tried to workaround using jQuery to set the slider input element value. However eve this does not work ATM. The input element has id “QID27~9~realslider”. I get the value but if I try to set it the value in the UI is not set/updated correspondingly. It does not matter if I consider the grid setting (here: value of 10 → “50”) or not.

@Tom_1842 The `this.setChoiceValue(1, "44");` syntax does not work for me for that question type variant.
I believe getChoices will return an array of choice ids and for matrix questions, choice ids will correspond to the row number. Matrix questions will also require the subId in order to set an answer, which will correspond to the column number. @Tom_1842 What API do you use BTW? The publicly available API does not contain any examples? https://api.qualtrics.com/82bd4d5c331f1-qualtrics-java-script-question-api-class Probably I should use your docs instead in the future.

I was really confused about how “choices” work for this question type.Do choices have some real meaning for this question type actually other than indicating how many rows a matrix has?Right now I don’t know how to get the complete shape (# rows + # cols) of the matrix.
For the exemplary HTML input element below the issue seems to be shadow DOM https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Web_components/Using_shadow_DOM . Instead of being accessible as usual the value of the input element is wrapped into a shadow DOM + div element.

W.r.t. typing this variant is pretty wired cause it might raise “Failed to evaluate page script” issues. See browser debug session above. Personally I’ll not use this one.
Finally found out that only a single one of the documented QX API variants works to get EmbeddedData. Works in “preview” mode when hardcoding a value (string).
Can you confirm that I cannot get EmbeddedData from header scope JavaScript? At least the builtin IDE seems to raise an issue here. I’ll try out in question scope JavaScript again.
Same for ExternalDataReference... if I try to get ExternalDataReference into the JS code in “preview” mode it does not work. QX pastes an empty string into the variable instead of the actual value set in the contact list used to define the ExternalDataReference. (According to QX docs the JS code syntax to get ExternalDataReference and EmbeddedData should be exactly the same.) ExternalDataReference is properly set in Survey Flow: This is the actual, question specific JS code:This is what results in “preview” mode (via browser console)… no matter into what QX API method I put the code into: If I publish the survey (publish button) and try to get the data in “publish mode” it’s the exact same behavior.
@Sowrabh1993 Does not help in “preview” mode as well. Do I need to “enable” JavaScript APIs via the Qualtrics UI somehow probably?
@Sowrabh1993 Could it be that EmbeddedData cannot be loaded into JavaScript code in preview mode? Probably loading EmbeddedData is possible in “live” mode only...
For a question type “choice” this.setChoiceValue("1", true); did the job.
