Ah, figured it out. In case someone else needs: this.getQuestionInfo().Choices[1].Text Replace “1” with the choiceId of whatever choice you need the text from. Or the shorter: this.getTextValue(1); where 1 is the choice id. That’s not quite right, yours returns the text value of the (optional) text box. E.g. in this setup: this.getTextValue(3)returns “asdf” this.getQuestionInfo().Choices[3].Textreturns “T3”, which is the desired behavior.

Your code is working fine for me, as long as I create an embedded variable with the correct questionId (e.g., in my case I needed to create “comments|QID1”).Sometimes depending on how a survey is created, QIDs will not be created in the order you think. I’m wondering if the QID of your question is different from what you expected, and so the embedded variable “'comments|' + that.questionId” doesn’t exist.When you do your console logging, try also logging the QID, e.g. on page submit add an additional line “console.log("On Page Submit - Current Comment QID: " + that.questionId);”. Double-check that the QID is what you think, and that you created this embedded variable correctly in the Survey Flow.
The way I would approach this is to have it be a multiple choice question, and use Javascript to hide the multiple choice options. Then use Javascript event handlers to set the answer of the (hidden) multiple choice depending on where on the map the participant clicks. So e.g. if they click East Milan, you would have Javascript select the “East” option beneath the hood.

@nroot Thank you again for your reply. Yes, I tried survey 2 link with pretend values but they did not appear in the expected place of survey 2. In that case (if the values aren’t appearing in Survey 2 even when you enter them manually) it seems like your problem might be in survey 2. If you directly fill in the embedded variables with pretend values (filling in the blanks in the Survey Flow) rather than passing them as query strings in the URL, do they appear in the correct places in Survey 2?If the pretend values appear in Survey 2 when you put them into the survey flow, but not when you leave them blank in the survey flow and pass them through the URL, then the issue is with your URL formatting - perhaps with the formatting of your “?x=” vs “&x=”. If the pretend values still don’t appear in Survey 2 even after you put them directly into the survey flow, then the issue is your piping code in your question.A maybe silly third possibility - have you been publishing your changes?

Pass the answer as a query string in the URL to survey 2 (https://www.qualtrics.com/support/survey-platform/survey-module/survey-flow/standard-elements/passing-information-through-query-strings/), then add it as an embedded variable in survey 2, leaving the value blank. It will pull the value from the query string and you’ll be able to use the piped value in survey 2 like any other embedded variable.

When you change the innerHTML, you create a new element that gets reset to the default style. So, you need to change the innerHTML using a selector that is more nested than the selector in your CSS.
If you want to apply loop and merge in the reference survey block then you will need to go to reference survey and edit that reference version. else you can redirect your survey from one place to another with help of JS and then bring back the respondent after completing that survey to here. In that case 2 different completes will be marked for one respondent. I can’t add loop and merge in the reference block, because the values must come from the current survey. For example, in one survey I might want to run the reference block twelve times, once each for the lm values “January”, “February”, etc. In a different survey, I might want it to run four times, once each for the lm values “Winter”, “Spring”, etc.I don’t think sending back and forth with JS would work in a loop and merge block either - this would not be 2 different completes as you say, it would be a variable number of repeats per subject (e.g., 12 completes in the months example above, and potentially hundreds in some o
Since it is in a loop, you can check if the forced response question is answered in the addOnPageSubmit() function. If it isn’t answered, set the embedded field to 1, otherwise set it to zero. This works for the simple QSF example above. Unfortunately, the general strategy of running the onLoad only in certain conditions does not fix the Canvas issue - the Canvas is reset when Force Response is triggered. I’m not sure there’s a way to work around the underlying problem that the page is refreshed when Force Response is triggered.Ultimately, I ended up removing Force Response entirely, and instead hiding the next button until the participant answered all questions. I’m assuming that this is the best solution for now, unless Qualtrics actually changed how Force Response is implemented.
@nroot - You can set an embedded data field in addOnPageSubmit() then include it in your addOnload() function logic. Ah yes, this works, but now I’m having trouble figuring out where in the logic I should reset the embedded variable if I’m inside a loop and merge.So, “submitted” is initialized to zero, I only run my onload code if submitted is 0. On page submit I set submitted to 1, now if force response triggers it won’t run the onload code again (which is correct). But now I answer the question, submit again, and it successfully goes to the next loop in the loop and merge. How do I set submitted back to 0 only when this happens?Silly I know, but I wish there were an addOnSuccessfulPageSubmit() that let you change an embedded variable only if Forced Responses weren’t triggered and you successfully go to the next page.
The issue isn’t manipulations within the canvas, the issue is that the entire page is getting reloaded when Force Response is triggered, so from the perspective of the code, there is nothing to restore. My current specific use case is for Canvas, but I made a much less complicated minimal working example to show specifically the problem I am facing (zipped QSF attached). In the MWE there are two questions, a slider and a multiple choice question. I use javascript to choose a random integer 1-100, and on page ready set the value of the slider to the random number. Move the slider around as if you are answering the question. Now “forget” to answer the multiple choice question and press submit. The “Force Response” trigger reloads the page, triggering Javascript to move the slider to a new random position. I want it to instead not run the code again (or somehow only run the code if it “knows” that this is the first time the page has been loaded).

I’m not sure if this is the same issue, though: mine seems very specific to ad-blocking software. I’ve now confirmed that Safari’s ad-blocker also prevents my survey from loading. It does not throw an error, though: instead, the circular spinning loading animation just persists indefinitely (or at least, for 15 minutes or more). Just as with uBlock on Chrome, disabling content blocking on Safari fixes the issue and the survey runs without error. Further, this seems to be a very recent issue for me: it is happening on many of my surveys as of today, and last week (and for months prior) they were all working perfectly.It seems like some change on Qualtrics’ end has caused a crucial page element to be interpreted as advertisement, or something?

https://community.qualtrics.com/XMcommunity/discussion/comment/48167#Comment_48167A solution I've used that is more general purpose but requires more back-end coding is to abandon the idea of one-row-one-respondent, use an ID embedded var to link together responses, and use embedded variables to control the loop. So, you have a separate survey for your loop/merge, and depending on Q1 response they get sent to the survey with their product choices flagged in embedded variables . Then, if they indicate that they want to do it for the rest, you send them to the loop/merge survey again as a "new" participant, but with different product choices flagged. Then in your analysis, you know that it is the same participant because you had an embedded var with their ID.This requires you to merge multiple responses during your analysis pipeline, but this is often much easier than doing some sort of complicated Qualtrics routine.
If this is your only use case, I think the simplest solution is to duplicate the loop/merge, and if they answer yes to Q5, send them to the duplicate, coded as if they had selected the inverse of their Q1 answer.
Yes, your solution works (and is the simpler method) as long as the array size is constant.My solution is more complicated only because it allows for a different number of images (and thus a different number of loop/merge iterations) that does not need to be set ahead of time. If the array is size 12, e.g., it will only pull img0,...,img11 into the loop/merge.
