In one of our surveys, we're asking for respondents' ZIP codes. We'd then like to ask them a question about how they would allocate money between the national government and the state government, and then between the state government and the city government. The first question's simple since we're only surveying respondents in the United States and ask them explicitly for the state they live in earlier in the survey. But for the second question (something like "how would you split $X between the government of Alaska, and the government of Juneau", for example), we don't necessarily want to explicitly ask people for the city they live in as well (it's a last-resort option). So given that, I've been able to find some spreadsheets that map ZIP codes into the corresponding "town" or "city", but of course there's 40,000 + ZIP codes, easily hundreds if not thousands of which may come up in our survey. In one of my surveys I have sliders, where I present above the slider the value on the slider, plus the maximum value of the slider minus the value of the slider itself (i.e. the value of the slider if you were to start from the right side). This is because the slider is serving as an allocation of some fixed amount of money between two individuals. I have a question on my survey that requires respondents to choose to allocate a fraction of something between two people. We really want the particular functionality to be a slider (so that each end of the slider is a different person), but do not want any kind of default to appear on the slider (i.e. not even in the middle), since we're worried about things like anchoring and adjustment, people just leaving the default as the answer, etc. I know there's other question types like matrix tables that have no defaults for the respondent's choice, but since the particular task is an allocation of a fraction of something (and we want the respondent to be able to do anything from 0-100, 1-99, 2-98, etc.), the slider makes the most sense and is definitely what we want. I've seen people ask this before and unfortunately have not found anything that works. Thanks!
Hi, I've seen many questions asked before that deal with Display Logic within a same page, but nothing particularly seems to address my issue. Basically, I have eight questions with two text entry boxes in each. I start off presenting the first of these questions, and have the remaining seven on the same page with Display Logic to the question immediately preceding it. So I simply want the eight questions to appear one at a time and in order, below each other on the same page as the respondent successively answers each one. However, Qualtrics' built-in "In Page" functionality for display logic sadly does not work for text entry questions. So I'm left with each question appearing on a new page (which is not desirable for timing and general experience of filling out the survey), or attempting to make the Display Logic work myself through Javascript. I've seen this question asked before, and any Javascript or CSS snippets I find that would seemingly solve the problem never work for me, unfortunately. I have a Pick, Group, and Rank question with a bunch of items (about 20), and the same number of groups (we want respondents to drag each item into one box, with just one item per box). I've managed to make the Group box heights smaller, but unfortunately, the number of items and groups is still too large to view all in one screen, and the screen does not automatically scroll when a respondent picks an item and tries dragging it to a group box that's far below on a page. I would just love this to be a possibility, as it makes answering the question properly virtually impossible/ I imagine respondents would get tired of shifting items around in the groups if they even took the trouble to do so, to get around the lack of scrolling while having selected an item to drag and drop. I ask respondents in a survey for their race and gender (in multiple choice questions). I then would like to use these answers, concatenate them with some other strings into a new variable, and then set that variable as embedded data to be used in another question. So in the Javascript for a question on a page right after they have submitted the page asking for their race and gender, I pull in their answers using the piped text from the question: `var gender="${q://QID245/ChoiceGroup/SelectedChoices}";` `var race="${q://QID243/ChoiceGroup/SelectedChoices}";` And then use those new variables in a new variable I have already initialized. For example: `phrase="";` `phrase="Some words " + race + " " + gender + " rest of phrase";` And then, I simply set embedded data as normal. For some reason, when I then get to the question that's meant to use this embedded data, nothing at all shows up (whereas before, when the strings I set as embedded data were simply just phrases that did not rel
I have a survey where respondents drag and drop items to groups in a PGR question, and have set validation such that an exact number of items is allowed in each group. Of course, if a respondent places more or less groups than the exact number allowed in each one, they'll get an error message upon trying to go to the next page. However, we're interested in two things: a) showing respondents exactly how many items they've already included in each group as they're dragging and dropping, and b) if possible, showing an error message whenever more items are added to a group than allowed (i.e. in real-time, before the respondent even clicks on the "next" button). Right now, we're actually using the PGR question to have people categorize into groups, where the ranking within each group does not matter at all, and as such I made the "ranking" that shows up for an item when it's dragged into a group to be hidden. Thanks to @TomG, I've managed to get the handle on a slider in my survey to be hidden until the respondent clicks anywhere on the track of the slider itself, with the below: `var q = jQuery("#"+this.questionId); q.find(".handle").hide(); q.find(".track").on("click", function() { jQuery(this).find(".handle").show(); });` While this works great to ensure there is no visual "default" on a slider to anchor the respondent, once the track of the slider is clicked, the handle of the slider shows up on the very left of the slider, so the respondent has to click again to where they initially clicked on the slider (assuming that's where they wanted to place the handle) and then that sort of already becomes the default. So we'd like to go an extra step and have the handle of the slider show up wherever the respondent has first clicked on the track. For one of my surveys, I have a block with 19 sliders, each in its own question of that block. For all intents and purposes, other than some descriptive text, each slider is identical to every other slider on that block, and I have the same jQuery and Javascript code on all of them. Essentially, the code works to prevent respondents from sliding on the slider past the value 50, even though the max value on the slider itself is 100. They all work fine and dandy, but I have one last slider on a different block of the survey that shows up _after_ the block with this first batch of sliders. For this one, respondents are allowed to slide anywhere from 0 to 100 (the min and max values of the slider). Otherwise, they all have the same code to hide the handle on the slider until the respondent has clicked on the track of the slider. I've noticed though that sometimes, when I'm testing out my survey, I can't slide past 50 on that last slider (so it seems to be using the same Javascript code a
I have a slider fro 0 to 100, but want to make it so that respondents can only drag the slider halfway from the left (so really only allow 0-50). It's important though that 51-100 are visible, which is why of course we don't just make the slider from 0-50. I've tried several different ways, including resetting the value of the slider back to 50 if it's ever dragged to 51 or beyond. It may be that I didn't implement the syntax for the Javascript correctly but neither that nor any of the other code I have found online that tries to manipulate the value of a slider seems to work. Is there a way to do this? Ideally some jQuery on the question for the UI of the slider would not even allow the handle on the slider to be dragged beyond 50 at all, but if that's not possible, then just some lines of code that works to both get and set the value of the slider (so that I can trigger it if the value of the slider goes beyond 50, to reset back to 50) would be great. On a survey, we're using a slider as a way for the respondent to allocate money between two hypothetical subjects on either end of the slider. I know that in a general question, we can allow the slider to "Show Values" to the respondent so they see what answer they're choosing on it. Because our particular question is an allocation between two subjects, what we'd like is to have that same information displayed, but below the slider and from the perspective of both ends of the slider (so if our slider goes from 0 to 50, and the respondent has dragged the handle on the slider to 37, we'd like the boxes below the slider to show "37" on the left side, and "13" on the right side (50-37, which is what the respondent has allocated to the subject on the other end of the slider by dragging)). I'm assuming that I just want to get the same snippet of code that Qualtrics uses to show the value above the slider that we could see in a regular setting, but just place that value on a different loca
I have a survey where people "rank" a set of items by having them place one (and only one) item into each of the same number of groups (where each group is a different money allocation; so item A gets, say $10, item B gets $9, item C gets $8, etc.). I am then trying to use that ranking in further questions of the survey (where the ranking is which group the item was placed in), but when I use Piped Text from that question, I of course get "1" as the "Rank" for each item, since each item is the only item included in every single group. What I'd like then is to specifically be able to refer to "the item in the group labeled $10", and the "item in the group labeled $9", etc. as piped text. The "Carry Forward" functionality does exactly what I want (by allowing me to carry forward "Selected Items in Group: $10", for example), but it only lets me do that with one of the groups and not all of them. Display Logic also doesn't work since I'm thinking about a ranking, and not just displaying c
I'm trying to remove the labels from a slider in a survey question (i.e. the numbers on top of each gridline). I've gone to "Inspect" on Google Chrome to see the relevant CSS snippet and I keep getting "jQuery('#QID29') > div.Inner.BorderColor.HSLIDER > div > fieldset > div > div > div.labels-container > ul.labels" as the selector. But I can't seem to make the numbers disappear (I've tried making the font white, since that's the background for my survey, making the visibility be hidden, setting the font size equal to 0, etc., and nothing seems to work). I may be well off so if anyone knows just a simple way of removing the labels that'd be great. Thanks!
We have a question in a survey that asks respondents to rank 20 different items, but we need the particular functionality/ look of the question to be a drag and drop specifically (not the Rank Order type though, as we need them to drag into different amounts of a money allocation), so the Pick, Group, and Rank question makes the most sense, using 20 groups. But the box for each of those groups for that type of question is too big, whereas we only need (and in fact, require) just one item per group. This is not only inconvenient but also makes answering the question virtually impossible, since the screen does not scroll down when one tries to drag an item down to a group far down the page. Is there a way to adjust the height of these group boxes, so that they only fit one item in each (or at the very least are "shorter")? Alternatively, if there's some other type of question or way to do this, any help would be greatly appreciated! The drag-and-drop functionality is non-negotiable I'm
