Remove line breaks and quotation marks from essay text entry

Hi all,In a side-by-side question, I have participants inputting (a) some text in an essay box, and (b) a numerical rating from a drop-down. I then use some JavaScript to (a) sort numerical responses into ascending order, and (b) set Qualtrics embedded data based on the text of largest 3 numerical ratings. Everything works fine unless a user inputs a line break or quotation mark in their response, in which case the code breaks & nothing displays.Anyone know how I can remove line breaks and quotation marks from the user input? Rank ordering responses from a side-by-side: Display the 3 highest-rated (and lowest-rated) answers

Hi community,I have a side-by-side that looks like this:I need to create two lists on the next page: one with the 3 highest-ranked Trends and one with the 3 lowest-ranked Trends. In this example, the highest-ranked table would look like this: TOP OPPORTUNITIESExample Trend #6Example Trend #3Example Trend #1(The other table would be Trends 2, 5, 7)Please note that some participants will fill up all 10 blanks in the table but others will only complete a subset.Unfortunately I don't know JavaScript, which I suspect is required for this task.Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

Make a text-entry input box read-only in a side-by-side question type

Advanced Side-by-Side Support: Constant sum, Text Entry, Pipe highest responses

Hi Community!I have a doozy--3 advanced needs of a side-by-side question type. If you can answer any, even if not all, that would be much appreciated! I need to accomplish the following: (Green) Allow text entry for the column headers. Participants should be able to type in answers where it says "Criteria 1",..., "Criteria 4".(Red) Constant sum. Add a column that reports the row sums. Note: If this absolutely cannot be accomplished, I can create a table below that simply reports the selected answers as well as the constant sum, as long as that updates dynamically as participants change their answers. This is fine though not ideal.(Yellow) Select the 3 highest aggregate scores and display them, in order.Note: In case it changes things, the original list of Competitors (Acme, Smith Corp, etc) that populates the list of Competitors is Piped Text from a previous page on which participants list between 2 and 10 competitors.Related (4th?!) question: In a separate side-by-side question, parti

Randomize order of fields within a loop & merge row (JS?)

Hi community! Here's a scaled-down version of what I need:Set-up: We're rolling 6-sided dice to determine payouts. Participants see 3 Scenarios. Each scenario will be displayed one-at-a-time in tables like these:Need: I need to randomize along two dimensions: (1) The order that the Scenarios are presented to participants (e.g., sometimes the order is A-C-B sometimes it's C-B-A, etc.) & (2) the dice numbers that are winners (e.g., for Scenario B, sometimes the $10 payouts occur if you roll a 2, 3, or 6 and sometimes they occur if you roll a 1, 4, or 5, etc.).Attempted: Right now I have loop & merge set up where each row of the L&M table corresponds to a different Scenario and I select the option to randomize the order that rows are displayed. However I have manually coded the L&M table so that for Scenario A : Field 1 = $10, Fields 2-6 = $0; for Scenario B: Fields 1-3 = $10, Fields 4-6 = $0; for Scenario C: Fields 1-4 = $10, Fields 5-6 = $0). Set embedded data: Counting the number of words selected in a Highlight Question

Hi community,I have a Highlight Question with a paragraph of text. There's only 1 category: "Contains a G." I ask participants to highlight all of the words that contain a G.How do I set embedded data representing the number of words that they highlighted?I want to tell participants in the next block, "You selected ${e://Field/num_gs_highlighted} words that round." Wordcount of an embedded data field

Hi community!I have an embedded data field, high_string of the form: "2: Pickles, 4:dog., 5: bottle, 13: rainbow."I need to set a new embedded data field, string_length that captures the wordcount (ignoring numbers) of this field (i.e., in the example above, it should be 4 since it's "pickles", "dog", "bottle" & "rainbow"). Creating a table of different choice buttons, requiring one choice per row

Hi community,I'm in need of the ability to make a 2-column table that forces participants to choose either a button on the left or the right *for each row* and records their selection for that row. For example, it would say:Would you rather have....[$0] [a new pair of headphones][$10] [a new pair of headphones][$20] [a new pair of headphones][$30] [a new pair of headphones][$40] [a new pair of headphones]I'd need to know the point at which they switched from preferring the headphones to taking the cash. It would be especially nice if, once they choose the cash for the first time, it fills down for the rest (e.g., if they take $20 over the headphones, then it auto-selects the preferences of $30 & $40 over headphones) but this is DEFINITELY nice but not necessary.Is there a way to accomplish this basic task? It feels like a job for HTML/JS, but I don't know either. A matrix table with repeating headers won't work because I need different text for each row.THANKS!

Automatically add rows to a text-entry form

Hi all,I have a text entry form, and would like to have it start with just two rows but then automatically add a new row as soon as the previous row is filled out. For instance, as soon as someone writes in the 2nd row, a 3rd row appears. Then when that person writes on the 3rd row, a 4th row appears. How do I set an embedded data field equal to the word count of a text entry question?

Hi all,I'm a novice with JS trying to cobble together a few related ideas from other posts.Goal: Set an embedded data field r1_wordcount equal to the total number of words from a text entry field (in case it matters, the name of the text entry question is r1_typing). In a later block, I want to show participants that value (e.g., "Your answer contained ${e://Field/r1_word_count} words"). Hi Qualtrics Community,Currently, I'm using JavaScript with display logic to automatically advance blocks after 10 seconds spent on a Loop & Merge question. Have auto-advance ignore validation rules

Hi!I have a page with 20 math questions on it. Here's what I'd like: Validation such that you can't submit the page unless you got all 20 questions right.I set this up with custom validation, no problem.Everyone auto-advances to the next page after 5 minutes, whether or not you've finished all 20 Q's and/or have some errors that haven't been fixed.Here's where I run into the error. The auto-advance feature is attempting to move on after 5 minutes but when there are blanks/errors, the validation-based error warning is triggered & the whole page restarts the 5-minute timer.Anyone know how to get auto-advance to ignore validation rules?

Auto-advance to next block after set amount of total time spent on a loop and merge block.

Hi Community,I have a loop & merge block with only 1 (text entry) question in it: ********Count the number of J's in the following string: ${lm://Field/1}********The loop & merge matrix is just 1 column with ~100 rows, each cell containing a string of random characters (e.g., "OJIJSDFOIJSDFOJSD"). Goal: Participants should have exactly 1 minute to answer as many questions (read: get through as many loops) as possible. They won't come anywhere close to getting through all 100 in the 1 minute, though. The timer needs to be cumulative across all loops, so if someone spends 20 seconds on the first loop, and 10 seconds on the second loop, they should only have 30 seconds remaining for all remaining attempts. Then, at the end of the 1 minute, they should be auto-advanced to the next block. Note: I do not want to show the timer on screen.The Problem: I tried using the timer + auto-advance feature, but unfortunately it resets the timer with each successive loop. Can I use HTML/Javascript to add hidden text that still gets counted by ctrl+F?

I have a string of 1s and 0s that I want to have people count. However, to separate those people who are actually counting from those who are "cheating" by using ctrl+F, I'd like to include a few extra 1's that do not appear to people but would get counted if someone was using ctrl+F.In other words, I'd like something to be displayed like this: 1 0 1 1....but actually have two extra hidden 1's so anyone counting would see three ones but anyone using ctrl+F would report five ones (3 displayed + 2 hidden).Is it possible to use HTML to have hidden text that isn't displayed but is counted by ctrl+F?Here's what the HTML view looks like right now.Count the number of "ones" below: 1 0 1 1Thanks so much in advance for any help you might offer!

Count the number of Keystrokes

Hi all,I have an essay question in a Qualtrics survey and want to be able to record--unbeknownst to respondents--the total number of keystrokes (ideally as embedded data) used to type into the text box. I want to know, for instance, if someone typed in "hello" whether they typed that word (keystrokes = 5) or if they copy>pasted "hello" (keystrokes = 1 or 2). In fact, if someone wrote "hellos" then deleted the "s", I'd want that recorded too (keystrokes = 7). Does anyone know if this is possible?Similarly, is there code that will automatically count the number of characters (so that anyone who writes "hello" would get a score of characters = 5 whether they copy>pasted, typed it perfectly, or had a typo that they corrected)? Restarting a loop & merge block conditional on the answer to a subsequent question

Hi all, New to the community, I hope I lay out this question correctly. I suspect I'm in need of some JavaScript since I wasn't able to solve this using branch logic. Using auto-advance from a timer question, I'm sequentially flashing text on a screen using a loop & merge. After the loop & merge, in the next block, I ask people if they want to watch the loop again. What I want: If people say "yes" they want to watch again, it should take them to the start of the loop & merge block again. Afterwards, it should once again ask them if they want to watch again. And once again, if they say "yes" it should restart the loop. They should be allowed to re-watch as many times as they like. The best I can come up with is to, using branch logic, hard code a BUNCH of nested conditional branches (if yes --> show loop block then show "re-watch?" block; then, nested under that, a duplicate block, _ad infinitem_). The problem is that I want them to be able to re-watch as much as they'd like.
