What a great question...and I do believe that there is a lot of peer-reviewed research about the relationship between gratitude and wellbeing...perhaps more than correlation. I love having the opportunity of supporting Qualtrics, REDCap, and best practices in qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research at my university. Absolutely. That is the power of embedded data. Qualtrics has a good write up of how to use embedded data here:Embedded Data | Also you can use the anonymize option in Survey Options to get rid of identifying emails from your contact list once they have completed the survey. You could export your Qualtrics data, reformat it and import it into your REDCap project or as others have said you could write an API to do this.
@Kate I agree with you. It is good to have groups for entire schools/divisions/etc. That said, research universities/teams often need smaller groups, such as one principal investigator on a team of RA's/collaborators on a given lab/research project. What I meant by "templates" is if I had a certain survey (that I use again and again- perhaps I share it in a group library) - as in Kate's example of a consent form (which might vary between a Nursing School and Business School for example). I would then, as Kate said, share the library with all the members of the group. ! Or I might want to share a specific survey with a few members only of my research team. However, am I correct that surveys must always be copied into specific accounts to be run - one can't administer a survey out of a library? One account must "own" the survey and the survey would be distributed from that one account - not from a shared group library. I wish this description had a bit more detail and I wish th
I typically steer researchers in our university community away from Qualtrics for longitudinal studies or studies with repeating measures/events/instruments. I prefer REDCap for this type of classic experimental or longitudinal design. That said, I will often call a Qualtrics survey from a REDCap instrument, often for anonymized incentive surveys. Qualtrics is my "go to" tool for ease of use and customer support but for complex longitudinal research projects or projects with multiple arms/experimental designs we have much luck using REDCap.
I agree with your assessment @Kate. My background is in social science/social work research (quant/qual/and mixed methods). As you design your surveys in Qualtrics or other tools, it is good to think about your data collection and analysis plan. I often tell students that just because your Qualtrics or REDCap survey/instrument includes some open text fields it does not make it a good mixed methods project. It is important to think about your methodology in including qualitative and quantitative data into your survey/instrument before you finalize your survey/instrument.
Hi Everyone. I'm Rani Dalgin, a Qualtrics and REDCap academic administrator at Boston College. I have been working with Qualtrics (as an administrator and survey designer) for the past 6 years but have not taken as much advantage of this community as I hope to do going forward.
At Boston College, we have had faculty and students who experienced a lot of heartache migrating Qualtrics accounts to and from our university to other universities. Sometimes it took over a month and occasionally Qualtrics misplaced data in the process. That said, we strongly recommend to our research community members that they "own" (take responsibility for) their critical data by exporting both the qsf files and the data...especially for data and surveys that they will quickly need to access when they leave or arrive at Boston College. Furthermore, there is an Institutional Review Board/research integrity issue. Once a faculty member has left Boston College, I need to obtain permission from their department before I migrate their entire account. If they have already made their own portable copies of critical surveys and data, then I don't have to do this. Thanks Emily. I guess this technology helps makes the qsf files searchable by topic. I will try searching qsf files. It would be cool if it was easy to do technologically ...to be able to view an index of best practices/innovative practices qsf's. I enjoyed the one from the "dog contest". I know that the research core has a wonderful library of surveys but it would be helpful to have more best practices and innovative use cases. I know that this community is growing. This is the first time in 5 years that I am not at Summit and I miss learning and experiencing it...but a wonderful new first grandchild is a great reason to miss Summit.
The previous post was posted prematurely and I was not sure how to delete it. My question was intended to ask: "What do folks who design an anonymized survey do to make sure that folks are only given the link to the incentive survey page (I would use a question like: "Would you like to link to a separate survey drawing page where you may give us your email address and it won't be associated with your response on the anonymized survey?") if they complete most or all of the survey? What are some clever ways/best practices for making sure that survey participants don't just share the survey link with their friends without completing the survey? @Emily is there a repository where folks in this community can share their "best practices" qsf files?
It would be great to have a repository where we could easily find all the qsf's from these community challenges. Nice job @britain Thank you.
