@vgayraud I know that would be the default, but because the scoring happens in loop and merge I need to be able to see how many questions were answered incorrectly (the number of questions asked varies by condition and some people may skip questions) so 0 doesn’t work. I have that type of math in use for the overall completion score, but the attention check questions very specifically are different. I could recode all the scoring to make correct and incorrect two different scoring categories, but I’d rather not do that if there’s a way I can just grab the last two digits with js or something.
It looks like the issue was mostly an issue with Preview, and it loads almost immediately now that it’s published and being accessed through a live link. I didn’t realize there could be such a big difference in load times between preview and a live survey.

I’m using the default theme for my university. Applying that css takes away the padding for all question types above and below the question text. I only want to reduce the space below the question text/above the star slider stars, only on that question type.

I got some help from a friend on the first one. @TomG You were so right! I was coming down with something (why it’s taken me so long to follow-up) and didn’t notice that the second question was still on the default ‘one answer.’ Once I updated it to multiple answers, it worked perfectly. Thank you for your patience!

@TomG I overestimated my brain function. I used the code you provided, and I couldn’t figure out why it was only selecting the last answer choice in the list. I’m leaving note here in case anyone who googles to find an answer for this makes the same mistake I was making.I was using it on a carry forward question, and that was the issue that made it only select the last answer chocie. When I made a copy of the original Q1 and put display logic on every answer choice to only display if the Q1 version is unselected and then added the js, the code worked and checked all choices.So I guess I can’t use carry forward in this instance. (Back to display logic on a few hundred items, alas.)

I’ll go ahead and close this myself. I talked to customer support last night and she didn’t know why I was getting the error, though she was able to replicate. When I asked if there was a 99-line limit per logic set she said she didn’t know of one and agreed that if there was such a limit it should be in the documentation, in which she couldn’t find any mention of it. She passed it on to the internal technical team to see if they could tell the reason for the error. In the meantime, I’m just breaking it up into 3 cross-logic quota sets instead of trying to do it in one. Seems to be working.
That’s exactly what I was trying to do originally, and when I would drag the green stripe for embedded data into that top position, it kept pushing it down to be the 2nd thingin survey flow. now that I can see you did I tried again, and I guess maybe I was letting go of the trackpad not in the exact right spot or something, because I got it to stay at the top this time. I thought I’d follow up here in case anyone else comes across this thread trying to do the same thing. I had a friend help me and this is the js I have now. He created a hidden text entry question as the first in the loop and merge block, which is where we have the randomization order being recorded, the l&m table row to ID the clip, and which character shows first (flipped/not flipped) -- these are being recorded for use in analysis. Instead of putting your choices in the L&M table, you add all of them to the “What was happening question” and use display logic on “is current loop”. I don’t really understand how this would work. Aside from having to enter about 300 answer choices and using the tiny click target dropdown to add display logic to each one, how would a specific answer be associated with a given loop? Every row in the L&M table has different answer choices. In any case, I guess I can just do a find and replace on the final exported data file to indicate correct or incorrect instead of trying to get it to provide the actual answer text in the data table while it’s on qualtrics.
Ah, thanks! Any chance you can point me in the direction of any threads or tutorials on how to do that? I’ve been doing searches to try and find something as a starting point all day, but none of the threads here or in the Q&A or tutorials I can find on the web outside of the Qualtrics site are trying to do the same thing, and of all the js examples I’ve found in threads, I haven’t seen any that move a few questions to a different location in the block sometimes (which was exactly what I was wondering was possible originally, so it’s cool that you say it is).When I couldn’t find any references to something that would similar to “randomly move the CharR questions before the CharL questions about half the time” I started looking to see if there were any examples that instead created a variable from an array and randomly chose 1. Found one, but I’m not sure if it would actually work once I modified it enough to fit my kind of data. Any pointers or links greatly appreciated.

Part of it might be the A-B, 1-2 thing, so in my response instead of character 1 and 2, I’m calling them left and right (for where they appear in the video clip) and display first or display second. Hi CamM, thanks for replying. ExpertReview says the display logic is all good. The logic is not based on embedded data/piped text or unsurfaced questions. It's based on the matrix question immediately above and the answer selection in the appropriate column. What's weird is that 8 of the 20 don't show up, and 12 do, but I triple-checked the display logic on all of them (to see if I maybe clicked on the wrong choice or something), but they are all set up exactly the same way.
Wound up giving up and going with a combination of display logic, skip logic, and having to add in extraneous questions to hang the skip logic on. Frustrating, and adding individualized logic to so many questions took forever but it works.
I suppose I could do display logic, but loop & merge seemed simpler based on the number of potential items. Even though only 20 are shown in the matrix per respondent, there're 100+ items total (the previous question shows a randomly selected 20-item set). The UI for adding display logic is pretty clunky with multiple small click targets, so doing it 100+ times for individual follow-up questions isn't very accessible for people with RSIs vs. loop & merge being one setup.The current loop & merge is doing the function right, I just want to know if there's a js snippet or something I can add to it to display all the follow-ups on one page. Again, this is an accessibility thing -- it is not a good user experience for my respondents to have to mouse around a whole large page and load a new page every time for a single text box question when the doesn't seem to be a reason not to just display them all on one page, which makes the survey experience much nicer.
Hi Nic, thanks for answering. The "javascript option I mentioned" was from a survey program that was not qualtrics. Is there custom javascript that could do this within qualtrics? I'm not a programmer, so I can't come up with it on my own, I can just paste it into the custom javacript editor. :)Why would there be 2 multi line text outputs for each movie? I'm only wanting to create one text box per selected item, and people can write whatever comments they want in there, not to have different text boxes for 'i liked this' 'i didn't like this' etc.The loop & merge looks like it could fit, I'll give it a try.

TomG The issue with making a separate question is that then comment box question is separated from the multiple choice question by the line that the theme uses to visually separate questions, rather than looking like it's part of the multiple choice question. Is there a way to use css/js to remove the line just between those two questions (vs removing all lines from the theme)?
