View-only response pages being decommissioned after February 18, 2023

I was just notified that https://qualtrics.com/CP/Report.php?SID={surveyId}&R={responseId} is being decommissioned after February 18, 2023. How can I view a response without having to fire off an event or email trigger? 😥

Autofocus a text box field

I thought I would share this since I needed it for a survey. My use-case involves scanning barcodes to verify the values meet certain conditions. I want my users to simply load the survey and begin scanning barcodes and not have to manually select the text field with their cursor each time they need to scan a barcode.So if you have a text field that you want the user cursor auto focused on when the question loads (to save the user from needing to manually select it to begin typing or entering text), you can use the following javascript within your question. Survey export-responses API failing to return response values

I'm using the Qualtrics `/API/v3/surveys/{surveyId}/export-responses` API with the `"format": "csv", "useLabels": "true"` parameters. There is a multiple choice response option in my data of 'None=1' and these responses are being excluded from the API export and simply showing up as empty values. In other words, within a side-by-side question with multiple choice answers of `1 None,2 Mild,3 Moderate,4 Severe,5 Extreme,888 No response`, all responses except for ‘None=1’ (and 888, which uses the ‘excluded from analysis’ option in the survey) are being returned with the data. If I manually download the data from the web application then the 'None' values appear in the data. I did not find any exception in the survey template that point to a reason why the 'None' values should be excluded from the data. The only portion of the survey template with an explicit exclusion are the `888` values.Is this a known bug in the API or is there some other reason this data is being excluded from the API

what user permissions are needed to export a survey to Word?

I am trying to collaborate with others on a survey but the users are not able to see the option to export the survey to Word? What user permissions are needed for the collaborator? The support page at Import & Export Surveys (qualtrics.com) did not provide any information on permissions needed.

Where is the API documentation on 'Start Response Import'?

I was trying to find the latest API documentation on pulling response data. I found https://api.qualtrics.com/0493d73c20e86-legacy-import-responsesIt saysThis API is in the process of being deprecated. It will continue to be available. The preferred API is Start Response ImportI the 'Start Response Import' does not appear anywhere in the API docs and the URL to it does not work (https://api.qualtrics.com/responseImportsExports.json/paths/~1surveys~1%7BsurveyId%7D~1import-responses/post).Does anyone know where to find the new response API calls? Thank you.

Email distribution web service piped text not working

I have the following text in a test email distributionTest web service -- ${ws://WebService?u=http%3A%2F%2Fecho.jsontest.com%2Fkey%2Fvalue%2Fone%2Ftwo&f=one}The URL http://echo.jsontest.com/key/value/one/two returns JSON that Qualtrics recognizes when I use the 'Piped Text from a Web Service' option within the email distribution editor, however the email that is sent only containsTest web service --Has anyone else had any luck getting the web service output in an email distribution?

Branching logic to compare embedded data variables is failing

I have a branch in my survey flow that checks the values of a NextRead and QNextRead embedded data variable. For testing purposes I simply set the branch logic to 'If NextRead is equal to 1 And QNextRead is equal to 1' then execute the stuff in the branch. I should note at this point that the NextRead value is coming from Contact embedded data and QNextRead originates from the querystring. When NextRead and QNextRead values are equal to 1 then this branch executes (below is a screenshot of the branch logic)However if I add an additional condition that compares the two ED variables, then the branch is false (does not execute). If both of the first two conditions are true, then why isn't the third?

Access denied error accessing my surveys

Today a change happened within the Qualtrics Survey Platform that broke all of my surveys. CSS you could use to display question blocks horizontally

Why would I want a horizontal layout for survey questions? The use-case I have for a horizontal layout involves comparing sets of images side by side. The following isn't perfect but if you are trying to lay your questions out horizontally (not related to horizontal answers), below is some CSS to get you started. Environment variables available through Shibboleth authentication

I am using Shibboleth authentication within survey flow. The authentication works. I have the 'Capture respondent identifying info' box checked, but how do I determine the variable names or 'Field From SSO' available to me after the Shibboleth authentication passes? I'm guessing this is set by my Shibboleth service provider, but what geek speak do I need to use so they understand what I am asking for?

Qualtrics API - update response (put method) in NextJs

I use the update response (embedded data) API using PHP scripting, and my response embedded data is updated. However when I try to access the API using NextJs I get no updates to the embedded data. Yet the response from the API is status code 200 (all good) along with a requestId. I looked over the API code examples for javascript and jQuery (https://api.qualtrics.com/guides/reference/singleResponses.json/paths/~1responses~1%7BresponseId%7D/put) and what I have coded should work. Here is a snippet of my code (this forum blocked the code when I tried to insert directly into the text field so I was forced to paste into a text file):UpdateResponseAPI-snippet.txtAny ideas? My other API calls through NextJs (which are similar to this one) work just fine (export responses, get survey details).

'Redirect to a URL' setting using embedded data piped text ONLY

Once upon a time (at least as of June 2019), we were allowed to simply use piped text for the 'Redirect to a URL' option in the Survey Termination settings. So I could simply enter ${e://Field/ReturnURL} as my 'Redirect to a URL' setting (where ReturnURL is an embedded data value storing a URL to return the respondent to). This stopped working as of July 2019 on the Survey Termination settings but was still allowed on the End of Survey settings in the survey flow. Simply being able to use an embedded data value as the 'Redirect to a URL' setting is extremely useful. I have users coming to the same surveys from varying sites. I use the ReturnURL embedded data field to tell me the site a user is coming from and where I want to redirect them to once they have submitted the survey. My ReturnURL may look like: `https://[some host]/router/?UserMode=normal&AppSource=localv1&routeIn=[some survey ID]&rid=${e://Field/ResponseID}&sid=${e://Field/SurveyID}` Notice that I also include piped

Dynamically switch the page translation

Be wary of recoding your question IDs

If you are recoding survey question IDs to simply make your data export variables comply with some standard across datasets or make it easier to analyze your final data, then the Qualtrics question ID recoding feature is probably for you. However if you are trying to use a more dynamic approach to processing your surveys using custom question IDs, then you might want to be aware then you cannot currently use your recoded question IDs within piped text.I had recoded my question IDs because I had two blocks of identical questions but one block of the questions pertained to the left side of an object and the other block was used to answer questions for the right side of the object.For example, block 1 would be for the 'Left side of house' and I might have the following question (where QID4 is the internal Qualtrics ID):QID4. What is the quality of the foundation?But I want to ask this same question on the right side the house, so I recode the question ID to 'Q1_L' for the left side:Q1_L.

CORS exceptions

This is a general request to know if a CORS exception can be made on our organizational Qualtrics.com sub-domain https://[our org].qualtrics.com/ so that my web application can check to see if a user is currently logged into their Qualtrics account or not? Currently I get the following error trying to make a GET request to the URL: "Cross-Origin Request Blocked: The Same Origin Policy disallows reading the remote resource at https://[our org].qualtrics.com/. (Reason: CORS header ‘Access-Control-Allow-Origin’ missing)"

Legacy Data Export seems to be the only tool to export data for questions without response options

The latest data export does not seem to include a way to know if a question was 'seen' or not based on survey display logic. The new export tool DOES NOT export data for questions without response options (such as text/graphics). In my surveys I need to know if these question types were displayed or not. This is still important data and with the legacy data export expiring soon there does not seem to be a replacement in the new export tool or maybe I am missing something.

API (and Community submission form) woes

It looks like the API documentation website has changed, making it really difficult to find things. I'm trying to find the API call for deleting responses to make sure the API didn't change yesterday and is causing my responses to be deleted instead of replaced. Where the heck is the API references to handling responses?

What is the expected action of 'Update recipient from survey response' option?

Within the 'Add to XM Directory' task in survey actions, there is the option to 'Update recipient from survey response'. I would assume that checking this box would result in an update to the contact information for an an authenticated contact on a survey response completion action. So if my survey had a text entry question that says 'Update your contact information (last name)' and I have the response to this field update the Last Name field of the 'Add to XM Directory' task, I would expect the contact information for that user to be updated in my contact list. Is this not the expected behavior?

Clearing the cache

Can we PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, have the Qualtrics app clear the cache automatically for users when an update is pushed? I can't tell you how many times I get calls from users saying their survey screen is blank and then when I go to check the browser console for them it is throwing Qualtrics errors and I have to manually clear their browser cache to correct the issue. This is not cool, and developers should know how to force a client cache update automatically so users aren't left with blank screens or console errors due to a caching issue.

"Unsupported Survey Option - SurveyTermination" when trying to refresh an offline survey

What exactly does the message "Unsupported Survey Option - SurveyTermination" refer to when I am trying to refresh an offline survey on an iPad? Does it mean I can't specify a survey termination in offline surveys? (screenshot of error below) !

Offline app - reviewing saved responses

One of the gripes I have with the offline app is that it does not allow review of saved responses. If a user is submitting many multiple responses and has forgotten which ones they have entered and need to double-check that they entered something correctly, they are in the dark essentially as to what they have saved until they are able to upload the responses to the server. Since users currently have the ability to review responses 'in progress' it doesn't seem like it would be difficult to review responses saved. This would be a useful feature to add (to put it lightly).

Embedded data field types (how are they defined)

I am looking at the API documentation for adding embedded data fields to my surveys https://api.qualtrics.com/reference#insert-embedded-data-fields and would like to know what the different types of 'Valid embedded data field types' mean for the embeddedDataFields parameter? It isn't clear if data must be in a specific format to be saved to these embedded data field types or if it is simply for 'tagging' purposes and does not constrain the data in any way with regards to format or data length. When adding embedded data fields through the survey flow there is no option that I am aware of to set the field types. On a side note, I see we are allowed to have multiple copies of an embedded field in the survey flow (as shown in the screenshot below). I tested adding data to the survey to populate the 'MiscJson' embedded data field and only one copy of the embedded data field appears in the response data, which is good, but makes me wonder about the point of having the embedded data field

Setting embeddedData parameter in Update Response API call (v3) - only existing embedded data fields

When working with the Update Response API call (https://env.qualtrics.com/API/v3/responses/responseId) the embeddedData parameter seems to only set embedded data fields that appear in your survey flow. You cannot set a {"IgnoreResponse":"true"} embedded data field through the API call unless a 'IgnoreResponse' embedded data field is already set in your survey flow. (I thought I would post this note since the API documentation does not make this clear.) I ran across this behavior because I was creating new versions of responses via the qualtrics.com/jfe/form/[surveyId]?Q_R=[responseId to update] call. This allows me to keep the original response, but create a copy that needs corrections. Having multiple copies of a response however caused a problem with my reports. I wanted to keep all revisions of my responses for audit purposes but also ignore the old responses in my reports. To do this I needed to add embedded data to ignore the older responses. I decided to add a 'MiscJson

Is the 'Try it' function in the Qualtrics API no longer working?

I wanted to test the API function https://api.qualtrics.com/reference#create-response-export-new but I received a '400 bad request' error with 'Cannot download response export file through datacenter proxing, please retry using the url of the datacenter the API user belongs to.' The problem is there is no way for me to enter the datacenter ID in the 'Try It' editor and the documentation on the Try It editor seems to be out of date on the support site.
