Adding Attention Check Functionality to a Survey

How about this: Use scoring on the practice questions. If the score is below your threshold, show a duplicate of the instruction page/question block (using survey flow) before proceeding to the 'real' questions.

Piped text formatting issue (essay text questions and tables)?

When someone uses the enter key to make a new paragraph and the text is later presented as html, the paragraphs become merged. To retain the formatting you have to replace the CR-LF (the characters that using 'enter' yields) with <br> using javascript.

Why can't I add java script to my survey?

What type of question is it? Can you add javascript to other questions? If you put javascript into the question text, did you remove it before trying to add it via the gear? Try refreshing your session. Sometimes things get mixed up in the cache. You can use private browsing for your edits. Then if things get mixed up, quit the private browser and restart it.

Yes, you pipe the text as the default value. Click the gear on the left of the question and select Add Default Choices... Then choose what you want there: embedded data, prior question, etc. This will put something like ${e://Field/FirstName} into the field. If you do not see your embedded data, declare the variables first in Survey Flow. Make certain that you use the same name (case sensitive) as your contact list data.

Double check your logic. Post it here if you need help. Can you see the data for the question on the Data & Analysis page for responses where it is missing in the download?

Is the 'Try it' function in the Qualtrics API no longer working?

Had the same problem yesterday. Some functions worked others did not. You could try using the copy function and editing the data in a text editor to get the URL with the correct data center.

Trying to make an internal time card and am stuck on reporting

You will probably have to download the data and use a third party tool to do the reports. If you have API, you could implement the whole thing in a tool like R. Then you can parse the data so that a true weekly time card can be constructed per user.

Export Projects List

Log into your account (not this support system). Click on the circle with the head in it (to the right of ... Library Help ) Then go to Qualtrics IDs. If not already enabled, there should be the name of your brand admin there. Ask the brand admin to turn it on for you.

How do I automate adding opt-outs to a global list?

Using the API you could write a custom interface to your proprietary system. That interface would then run on some set schedule. Without the API, you would have to export your contact list manually and select the option to only include those who opted-out. Then you need to bring that list into your system to update their status.

Record end of survey message?

If you create the unique text, you could put it into an embedded data variable first, then put it into a hidden question for your use later. If the text is created from user responses, you could also recreate it after you export the data.

How do I keep respondent line-feeds in text questions when creating a report?

My guess is that the report is being made as an HTML page. If so, you could use javascript to replace the paragraph breaks with <br>. Then you would have to check to see that it was correct in the CSV format later. It might be easier to export the data into CSV and do your reports from another tool.

Multiple question - age variable

There are multiple variables to consider what is the 'best' way to ask a question. Consider the options that you can use for the age: 1. text entry 2. multiple choice 3. drill down (pick age group then actual age) 4. click up/down Three parameters to consider are how much work is involved to create, and how much effort to use the question, and what is involved in processing the data. If you used a click up/down method, your 61 year-old respondent might become frustrated and quit the survey. The question is easy to create, and data processing is straight forward. Options 2 and 3 require more work to implement (as you are finding), and require multiple steps for the user to scroll through or drill down. Once created you have to verify that the coded values are the ages, then the data processing is straight forward. Option 1 requires 2 keystrokes for most respondents. The data processing is as easy as option 4.

Why use a dropdown list or multiple choice for an age instead of a text entry? It looks like you are seeing the coded values of the DDL/MC question.

Automated individual analyses

Have you considered using javascript? You can do the math there and save the results in embedded data variables for piping into a report page and/or email at the end of the survey.

The code record of the multiple choice question is incorrect.

@Cathaya You have to recode the values. Click on the gear to the left of the question and select Recode Values... Then you can change the numbers. The reason that the numbers change is so that you can modify a survey in progress without overwriting earlier responses. In your case 6-10 is deleted but the number is reserved to protect earlier responses.

To update a question dynamically is probably not possible. You could put the average value into another question as follows: You would use javascript. @TomG shows how to get the value here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/38152424/how-to-get-a-sliders-value-in-qualtrics-using-jquery Then you can average it and put the average into an embedded data variable. The embedded data is then piped into the question when you want to show the result.

Oops, forgot to say that you should count your yesses (score) them in javascript and put the count into an embedded data variable. Then use the embedded data as the display logic test. Declare the embedded data in survey flow at the start of the survey.

@ZJ_Law, Try using display logic. In your group of 10, display the question if the score is less than 5. If the score is greater or equal to five, subsequent questions will be hidden until you get to the next question

You could use the retake survey option: https://www.qualtrics.com/support/survey-platform/data-and-analysis-module/retake-survey-link/ Just make sure you download the data from the previous survey so you can compare and track changes.
