Hi! I’m trying this on a side by side question type, but it’s not working. I don’t see anywhere in the code provided by @TomG that specifies the quesiton type (matrix versus side by side), but is there any reason why this wouldn’t work on a side by side question? Thanks! PS - Side by side questions are annoying and I hate them.
Is it even possible to use piped text as the total in validation for either the Constant Sum or Matrix-Constant Sum Question types? I’ve seen it referenced above for @Yvonna’s initial question and @MatthewM’s later suggestion of using the Constant Sum Matrix instead. I’ve been trying both and it’s not working at all. For context, I have a numeric amount saved to an embedded variable (classified as number set). The validation doesn’t work if I enter an amount below the value (e.g., if the variable is set to 10 earlier in the survey, my constant sum adds up to 3, but I’m able to submit the survey without any validation kickback).
Hi @Rohmakainth!What @Prateek.Dang describes above can definitely work -- this leverages query strings, which you can read more about here on the Qualtrics support page.Another approach you could consider is to leverage workflows and a customer contact/mailing list. You would have a form/survey that is sent to Managers where they enter the information related to their customer, then the data captured in that form (manager name, manager region, customer name, customer email, customer account name) would be saved as embedded variables tied to a customer contact instance in a contact list. Managers can bookmark/save the link to this form so they can add a customer contact whenever needed. You create a workflow associated with this form/survey that sends the customer questionnaire to a customer upon being added to the contact list by the Manager. The questionnaire declares the contact panel variables as new embedded data elements at the beginning of the survey flow so that the responses ca
I used the same code, and it is working fine. Did you run more than one response with this code? It worked for one response, but for no other responses after that. I did that for multiple responses, and it worked like a charm. Weird. I’m not sure why it stopped working on my end, but hopefully this ends up being helpful for others!

@Deepak So for reasons I do not understand, this worked once and has failed ever since. Nothing else about the code or question was tweaked. Any reason why that might happen?

thanks @JonesE , I get you now. I think it is just that the user interface isn’t showing me the graphics, but they appear in the survey. It’s really hard for me to narrow down specific things that I’ve learned, but a common theme is the ongoing willingness to share and support other Qualtrics users! There have been a few times where I was completely out of ideas, but folks were so quick to offer brilliant solutions. I also love answering questions others posts -- it often results in new ideas for how I use Qualtrics for my programs too!

Hi @pmBristol!You can definitely do carry forward with graphics! I’ve done this before in a survey to have respondents narrow down their preferred scenarios, in which each response option included a graphic. While you can select “Insert Graphic” from the associated response option drop-down menu, the formatting options are much clunkier AND they don’t quite work with carry forward logic. @Sowrabh1993’s suggestion of opening the Rich Content Editor for the response and adding an image there works with carry forward -- that’s how I made my survey and it works perfectly! Plus it’s far easier to format your response from the Rich Content Editor than to work through the image editing options available in the response drop-down menu.Hope this helps solve your issue!-Erin
Hi @Kobe H!Based on what you described, you should be able to view these data in your Results tab alongside the respective responses. Make sure you’ve declared your embedded data elements in your survey flow, and as @Sowrabh1993 mentioned above, be sure those embedded data elements are properly categorized (otherwise, you may not see the embedded variables available for certain widgets in Results).A Record Grid widget in Results could be helpful for viewing a table of individual responses and relevant embedded and/or survey variable values (each row being an individual response). I also like to toggle on the “show full response when clicked” option in the Record Grid so I can view all associated response data for that particular response. Alternatively, you could format the Results page to display individual widgets for reporting your data and embedded values, then apply filters to the entire page to view individual responses.Hope this helps!-Erin

Hi, @WoJo!You could try just putting all of the email addresses in the cc line, and have a generic email in the “to” line. This would allow one email to go out, with all 5 other email addresses cc’d (and visible) on the same email. For the “to” email, you could use your email and have the emails deleted or filtered in your inbox (so they don’t clog things up for you). I also typically work with programs that have a group or support email that I’ve used for purposes like these -- something along the lines of qualtrics_support@emaildomain.com. You could try a “no reply” email in the “to” but that might not go through and end up throwing you an error.Let me know if this helps!-Erin

Hi @JonesE , You are on the right path.Just add this JS code on next question after DOB or make a hidden one after DOB. Since , you are piping the value in the same question and since its value is not set yet. So, it is giving null value and thus “age ” variable is getting blank data. ${q://QID84/ChoiceTextEntryValue} this value at present is null . Its value will be set after this question. And, then you can run the JS code. Hope this resolves your query😊!! Thank you, @qualtrics_nerd! Unfortunately, this still didn’t work, even after moving the js and adding page breaks. I’d like to resurrect this post since I’m looking for something similar and feel I’m very close to a solution. I’ve seen @TomG refer to use of moment.js for instances like this -- Tom, any of your brilliant review would be greatly appreciated!For my purposes, I need to calculate age in months based off of the DOB entered in a text field with date validation (mm/dd/yyyy format). Then I’d like to save that value of age (in months) to a variable (‘age’) so that I can use branching logic to determine is a child is within the age parameters of this survey.Here is the question in the survey (text entry question with date validation): In my survey flow, I’ve set embedded data prior to the block that asks for DOB that creates variables for ‘months’ and ‘age’ (to be completed via JavaScript), as well as ‘currentDate’ which is set to piped text of the current date in m/d/y with leading zero format: Lastly, this is the code I have in the survey on the DOB question: Qualtrics.SurveyEngine.addOn

I seriously love this community.I tried the code that TomG and qualtrics_nerd offered, and they both worked, but with minor caveats:TomG's code didn't display the next button upon landing on the page, but in order for the correct answer to show the next button, I had to click outside of the text box after entering a response. qualtrics_nerd's code showed the next button upon page load, but upon clicking within the next box, it disappeared. Once the correct response was entered, the next button appeared automatically, without having to click outside the text box. Ultimately, I worried that clicking outside of the text box wouldn't be intuitive to the survey taker, and since this is a timed task, I opted for the code offered by qualtrics_nerd, but I made a small tweak to prevent the next button from appearing on page load. Here's what I ended up with (in case anyone else in the future is interested):Qualtrics.SurveyEngine.addOnload(function(){ this.hideNextButton()});Q
